Decontamination wastes contaminated with radioactive caesium (134Cs, 137Cs) are housed in the flexible container bags. Flexible container concentration measurement car has been developed for the radioactivity measurement of decontamination waste by Canberra Industries, Inc. For reduction of background, the flexible container bag is mounted to the frame, and measured from the lower side. In the flexible container bag, if there is uneven distribution of the source, the quantification error increases. We proposed the method quantifying the shielding situation of γ rays. As a result, the possibility of quantification accuracy of radioactivity was confirmed.
A time-of-flight (TOF) type near-backscattering spectrometer (n-BSS), DNA was built and started operation in 2012 at the Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF) of the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC). DNA is a unique instrument among spallation pulsed neutron facilities over the world. Those outstanding specifications gave big advantage to enlarge application fields to dynamical behaviors of atoms and spins in bio-molecules, soft-materials and strongly-correlated electron system in nanosecond timescale or in micro-eV energy region. The experimental data are presented for the dynamics study of biological materials and functional materials.
This series of articles “Neutron Inelastic Scattering” started in April 2013 is now ending after almost four years spent. It complements the previous series of “Measurement of Neutrons and Application” (1996–1997), “Neutron Imaging” (2007–2008) and “Neutron Diffraction (2010–2011) to provide readers with a full coverage of major neutron utilization.
