The present paper deals with the histology and prognosis of the 121 cases of gastric cancer, resected at the surgical clinic of Kanazawa National Hospital during the period from 1949 to 1956.
    1) Prognosis of the gastric cancer of early stage, such as carcinoma in situ, was the best, and its 5 year survival rate was 100%.
    2) The authors classified these cases histologically into four groups; adenocarcinoma, carcinoma simplex, carcinoma gelatinosum and carcinoma scirrhosum. Their 5 year survival rates were respectively 32%, 27%, 17% and 0%.
    3) As to the relation between the Borrmanrn's classification and prognosis, types I and II showed higher survival rate than types III and IV. Five year survival rates of types I, II, III, and IV were 33%, 44%, 23% and 18%, respectively.
    4) Prognosis was much better when the infiltration of serosa with tumor cells was not evident. Their 3 year survival rate was 66%. On the contrary, the prognosis of the cases of which tumor cells spread over serosa was less hopeful. In cases of extensive spreading, the 3 year survival rate was 7%, and in cases of light spreading, the 3 year survival rate was 25%.

The concept of intraepithelial squamous-cell carcinoma of the cervix uteri, which in many cases will develop into Frank invasion, has been established. Generally agreed criteria for the diagnosis of intraepithelial carcinoma is the replacement of the whole layers of epidermis by cells morphologically indistinguishable from those of Fran k invasive carcinoma, with complete loss of stratification, but with no evidence of penetration beyond the basement-membrane. There are varying degrees of epithelial anomality which lie in the continuum between normal epithelium and intraepithelial carcinoma. These epithelial anomalities have been designated by many authors as, basal-cell hyperplasia, atypical hyperplasia, basal-cell hyperactivity, anaplasia and many other terms. The basal-cell hyperplasia, when observed for months and years, will generally show regression to normality. Common mistake leading to unnecessary treatment may be misinterpretation of varying degrees of these epithelial anomalities for genuine intraepithelial carcinoma.
The present paper deals with the histological difference between intraepithelial carcinoma and basal-cell hyperplasia, based on the examination of 198 specimens taken as basal-cell hyperplasia at the Gynecologic Clinic of Kanazawa National Hospital during 1.951-1957.
The author concludes with special emphasis that cases suspected of intraepithelial carcinoma should never be treated hastily and that repeated and periodic biopsy confirmation should be carried out.

The present studies were concerned with the qualitative measurements of free amino acids from the exsudative foci of lungs of experimental animals, that had been experimentally infected and suffered from tuberculous pneumonia. The measurements were conducted by means of the paper-chromatography. The results were as follows:
    1) The kinds of free amino acids detected from tuberculous exsudative foci were cystine, lysine, serine, asparatic acid, glycine, alanine, valine and leucine.
    2) In the tuberculous exsudative foci, periodical fluctuation in the part of free amino acids, both in their kinds and quantity, were recognized. The fluctuation phenomena were highest degree by 24 hours to 96 hours in the process of the tuberculous exsudative inflammation.

The authors had selected 30 cases with giant TB cavities, over 5.0cm in diameter, from the thoracoplasty cases in our sanatorium during the period from 1946 to 1957, and investigated their pre-operation status, remote results after operation, and pulmonary function.
    Results were as follows:
Out of the 30 cases, 16 cases were progressively favourable condition, 7 cases were still under rest in bed and 5 cases were fatal.
All the cases were positive of TB bacilli before thoracoplasty. After the operation, negative rate became 50% by 2 years.
Infiltration in opposite lung generally showed improvement after thoracoplasty.
As for pulmonary function after thoracoplasty, vital capacity became at 47.5% level of the pre-operation value, in the average. While the M. B. C. was 40% in the average, A. V. I., 0.85 and the residual air was 53.5%, in the average.

Bacteriological and streptomycin resistance tests were carried out on 190 lesions from 75 cases of lung resection.
    1) Of the 75 cases, 88% or 72.1% of the 190 lesions were positive for tubercle bacilli.
    2) 77.5% of the cultures of the lesions from those of positive sputa before operation were positive. Of those who had negative sputa, only 38.5% were positive.
    3) By classified lesions, 75.8% of cavity cultures, 76.8% of the concentrated cavity cultures and only 35.6% of the abcessed caseous lesions were respectively positive. Those of positive smears with negative cultures were 40.4%.
    4) By size, 70.6% of the cultures from lesions over 1cm in diameter were positive, while only 35.5% of those under 1cm in diameter were positive.
    5) No marked core lation was found between the pre-operation chemotherapy and bacteria found later in the lesion. Chemotherapy had no influence on cavities and concentrated cavities, however, in case of abcessed caseous lesions, chemotherapy gave more negative cases and cases of positive smears with negative cultures were concerned with the effect of chemotherapy.
    6) Increased dosage of streptomycin before operation not necessarily was higher incidence of negative bacteria in lesions. The more dose of streptomycin before operation in duced higher resistance of the bacteria to streptomycin, and in cases where over 30g was administered extremely high resistance was found.
    7) Bacilli in cavities and concentrated cavities were found to be resistant to streptomycin though it is hard to say that only those found in the cavities were exclusively highly resistant.
