Due to kidney tuberculosis one kidney of the patient has been surgically exstirpated. He has been treated with PAS which resulted an apparent arrest of the disease for some time then the patient was admitted to the 2nd Tokyo National Hospital.
He was given 1g of SM twice a week and 0.5g INH daily for 2 years, however, the urine was constantly positive for tubercle bacilli. 3% of the urine test the stain (Nakasima) only grew in Ogawa's medium containing 1, 000mcg per ml of streptomycin.
The growth appeared within 3-5 weeks in the presence of 1, 000mcg of SM per ml of medium, but not in the tube without SM and in concentration of 1, 10 and 1, 000mcg of SM per ml of medium.
If it concubated more than 7 weeks, a slight growth was observed at the lower concentration of SM of medium.
The experiments were performed in vitro and in vivo.
Nakasima strain required the presence of SM for about 200mcg per ml to 1, 500mcg per ml in the medium. This strain was susceptible to INH, PAS and Kanamycin. A large doses of this strain were subcutaneously inoculated into gineapigs, but the disease did not occur on the animals as long as they were not given SM.
And these animals showed a slight virulence when intramuscularily they were given 100mg of SM daily.
Owing to the fact that more than one year after the SM therapy the patient's urine was bac. positive, it seemed that this strain would be dependent not on SM itself but on SM like substance.

On serums of 93 patients with tuberculosis and 30 healed men the author made both agglutination-test with phosphoroteid-Caolin and C. B. R. with dried antigen obtained from tuberculous bacilli.
    Results
    1) Positivity of the above said experiments were seemed to be related with positivity of tuberculous bacilli in sputa, cavity in the lungs and to extensity of defections.
    2) Positive-rate of the agglutination test of tuberculous patients was 79.5% and C. B. R. 85.0%.

Influenza type B, which had been prevalent in large cities, occured epidemically in our vicinities. And 137 children with pulmonary tuberculosis of the National Hyogo Tuberculous Sanatorium were clinically investigated.
    Results
    1) The epidemic period lasted a few weeks and 124 out of 137 children took the disease (90.5%). Sex and age of the patients did not have significant difference.
    2) The main symptoms were high temperature, headache, pharyngalgia, general malaise, cough and nasal obstruction. Among them fever ranged 37.0°C and 38.9°C and it lasted for 4 to 5 days.
    3) In most cases a slight acceleration of the blood sedimentation rate was observed.
    4) In regard to the chest X-ray examination, 3 cases (2.4%) had slight densities.
As a conclusion it was considered that the influenza type B of this time had little relationship on the course of the children at the sanatorium.

On 7 autopsy cases, particularly of their adrenal glands, investigations were made and pathologically significant changes were noted. The patients had been administered over one month and more than 500mg of prednisolone.
Depend upon the grade of decrease in weight of the adrenal glands the cases were classified into four groups and simultaneously each of them showed histologically characteristic pictures.
    1) Fatty degeneration of the adrenal cortex began in zona glomerulosa and then it extended to zona fasciculata and zona reticularis. Regeneration in the rest cortical cells occured in same order and distracted the normal structure. Repeating fatty degeneration and regeneration the cortex accompanied hyperplasia of connective tissue, And this process is resemble to the livercirrhosis.
    2) All cases had hyperplasia of subcutaneous fatty tissue and fatty degeneration of liver.
    3) Two duodenal ulcer and three pneumonia were found, however, they had no relation with the dose of prednisolone.
    4) Other organs showed no influence of prednisolone.

In the present study, investigations were made on the dispositions to recurrence of lepromatous leprosy from the view points of the living body, the causes observed from the effects of various antileprous drugs and treatments for recurrence.
The objects were patients who had been admitted before 1951. As for recurrence only the patients, in whom the disease had been exacerbated after 1953, were chosen.
The observed items were sex, age, age at the onset, duraion of the disease, extent of exanthemata, condition of the exanthemata, Hansen's bacilli, ENL and lepromin reaction. The dispositions of the living body were investigated through calculation of the recurrence rate of each of these items.
Investigations were also made in the patients to whom promin treatments had been given before and after the recurrence. And throughout the recurrence, the causes of the recurrence was depended to whether the dose of the medicine was too small, were studied. And simultaneously it was investigated that the patient might obtain resistance to the medicine even when the necessary dose was small.
Furthermore, considerations were made on treatment for the recurrence whether the samed typed medicines which had previously used before the recurrence should be applied or a different typed medicines should be used.
    Results
    1) The recurrence had no relation with sex, age at onset, duration of the disease and extent of the exanthemata. It was more often noted in those under the age of 39 and less in those above 40. It was also more often observed in the regressive period of the exanthemata than in the stationary period. It was also more frequently noted in the period of ENL appearance than in the period when ENL was not observed. And it was more frequently observed when Hansen's bacilli were positive than when they were negative, and also the similar relationship was noted when lepromin reaction was negative than positive.
In short, the recurrence was often noted in the unstable living body when Hansen's bacilli remained.
    2) The targets of completion of treatments for lepromatous leprosy were negativeness of Hansen's bacilli and positiveness of lepromin reaction.
    3) Many of the patients, in whom the disease was exacerbated, had obtained resistance to medicine.
    4) In regard to treatments for the recurrence, different typed medicine; medicines which were not familiar to the patient should be used.

Seven cases of so-called school myopia were treated by 5% Neosinesin for a year with the intermittent pause.
The method is that 5% Neosinesin was stopped the application for a month after using it as an eye-lotion for a month, and then the similar therapy was resumed for a following month.
    Results
In most of the cases, it was noticed that after a year there was no remarkable advance of myopia. However, it seemed that the period of the treatment of the so-called school myopia should not be short, but must be performed for long under the careful observations.
