The authors examined hepatic function every week for 6 months on all cases who were operated in Surg. Dept. of Sendai National Hospital from April to December, 1970 and performed liver biopsy in cases who showed disturbance of liver function after surgery, and studied correlation between hepatic function and biopsy findings.
    The following results were obtained:
    1) serum hepatitis and suspected serum hepatitis were found in 20 cases (18.5%) out of 108 received blood transfusion and jaundice developed in 5 cases of them. AA case (2.7%) out of 37 cases operated without blood transfusion was suspected to have serum hepatitis.
    2) cases accompanied with jaundice decreased in 1970 than 1909, but suspected cases increased.
    3) clinical diagnosis in cases with hepatic disturbance were confirmed by hepatic biopsy, and we noticed histological findings of hepatitis in most cases suspected as hepatitis.
    4) suspected hepatitis, particularly with jaundice, should be treated as . hepatitis.
    5) serum hepatitis should be diagnosed by means of hepatic function and biopsy, findings together.

Hydroxyethyl starch (H. E. S) is a new plasma expander which is developed from starch. In order to assess its clinical evaluation, we employed 30 cases for H. E. S and 10 cases for daily used low molecular dextran as a control.
Before and after the administration of these fluid, electrolytes in urine, electrolytes in blood, BUN, blood sugar and hematocrit at finger tip were measured in patients under general anesthesia. As muscle relaxant, S. C. C. and Dialferin were used.
Statistically significant differences were observed in urine Na (in Dialferin cases), in urine K (in S. C. C. cases), in Na/K (in Dialferin cases), in BUN (in Dialferin cases), in blood sugar (in S. C. C. cases) and in hematocrit (in Dialferin cases).
In conclusion, our study shows no significant, noteworthy, clinical 'differences between H. E. S and low molecular dextrran, although a little differences were occured by two kinds of muscle relaxants.

The effect of the room temperature in laboratories upon the test results has been studied.
The whole blood coagulation time according to Sahli-Fonio method at 37°C, shortened about 1/2, at 25°C, and prolonged by one and half times at 10°C.
On the case of red blood cell countings with the micro cell counter, when incubated for one hour at 37°C after dilution normal blood had shown 4.6% lower and abnormal blood 5.0% lower than the value counted right after dilution. Incuaated at 25°C for one hour normal blood showed 0.8% lower and abnormal one showed 1.8% lower. Also at 10°C for same incubation hour normal blood had shown 0.7% lower and abnormal blood showed 4.9% lower. By implementing Takata reaction at room temperature, we found the reaction times were in inverse proportion to the temperature.
With thymol turbidty test, we found no temperature influence upon the test.
Weaker reaction had been seen in CCLF test when the test proceeded at lower temperature.
In cholesterol determination, it was obvious that the deviation of the test results were caused by the deviation of the temperature in laboratories, therefore it should be emphasized that the temperature of laboratories have to be well controlled at 22°C to 25°C through the seasons.

Histopathological examination of tuberculosis was done on 107 autopsy cases in Komyoen Leprosarium from 1962 to 1970. Seventeen cases showed pulmonary tuberculosis, including healed and calcified lesions. The average age of these cases was 66.6. Active pulmonary tuberculosis was found in 10 cases; half of them formed tuberculous cavity. Only 2 cases showed remarkable extension of the disease to the other organs. This was quite different from the formm of tuberculosis before 1900 which was predominantly accompanied with direct or miliary type extension. Gaseous pneumonia of 4 cases between 1967 and 1666 suggested possibility of reinfection on the aged. Active tuberculosis on the aged seemed to have a tendency to become caseous pneumonia. There was no correlation between the types of leprosy and tuberculosis. We deny any specific relation of tuberculosis to leprosy patients.

A 21 aged male suffered from headache, pain in the neck, convulsion and change of character for about 3 months. Ventriculogram showed dilatation of lateral and third ventricles. He died on 27 days after ventricular-drainage.
A hemorrhagic solid tumor measured 5×4×4cm replaced pineal gland and distended along the posterior wall of the third ventricle. Microscopic examination showed variable picture of teratoid tumor, squamous stratified epithelium, glands lined by columnar epithelium, angiomatous tissue, adenocarcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma, so-called pinealoma and choriocarcinoma.
Subpleural multiple small hemorrhagic foci of both lungs showed, microscopically, metastatic picture of choriocarcinoma.

A 47-year-old housewife was admitted to Okura National Hospital on Feb. 23, 1970 with a complaint of upper abdominal pain. Two months prior to the present illness she began to have heart burn, easy fatigue and weightloss insidiously.
Laboratory evaluation showed no remarkable changes except for acceleration of E. S. R.
Roentgenographic examination of the stomach revealed a intraluminal mass arising from the lesser curvature of the stomach. The margin of the mass was smooth.
Total gastrectomy with end to side esophago-jejunostomy in association with extirpation of the spleen was performed.
Grossly, there were two tumors in the stomach. One was a 75 by 45 by 5mm. tumor, situated on the posterior wall of the stomach ; the other was a 35 by 20 by 5mm, tumor on the anterior wall. Pathological features of them were lymphoblastic lymphosarcoma. She had remained well for 18 months with no evidence of the recurrent disease.

The mortality due to vascular disease of brain has been increasing with increasing of longevity of population. The effect of B2-But (Riboflavin-2', 3', 4', 5', -tetrabutyrate) on arteriosclerosis which is one of the responsible agents of such illness was studied. Br-But was administrated to patients who had high serum total cholesterol and β-lipoprotein contents and the following results were obtained.
    1. B2-But was effective on lowering the serum total cholesterol and β-lipoprotein contents and the effect was observed in 7.0% of cases. Increased dosage and prolonged period of drug administration strengthened its effect.
    2. Undesirable side effect of Br-But on liver function were checked by S-GOT and S-GPT evaluations. No side effect was observed throughout this investigation. It is considered that B2-But is safe for patients prone to arteriosclerosis.
