Surgical management of cardiac disease continues developing in the last decade, and it become safer and reliable. However, there remain several issues to be resolved toward the next decade, especially concerning about surgical invasion. The purpose in next step in cardiac surgery would be the reduction of surgical risk and stress. Introduction of robotic assisted system and application of small skin incision would be the basis of our strategy in cardiac surgery toward next decade.
The society is aging, where the prevalence of aged people and the pandemic of life-style related disease have urged us to propose “10 year plan for fighting against cardiovascular disease”. Nowadays, people understand the cardiovascular disease as a preventable one owing to respective consciousness of their daily custom such as exercise and diet and as one of the biggest consumers of the medical resources. A wide range of highly qualified medicine from prevention to heart transplantation is required for fulfilling patients of all ages with intractable diseases. Accordingly, the infrastructures of the cardiovascular medicine should be re-engineered for preparing a coming advanced aged society where more than 3 quarters of the medical or social stocks will be spent. The most important initiative will be education and/or training for professionals and an improvement of “the quality of the medical care”.
