    硼酸塩結晶におけるストラクトンの組成の知識と硼酸塩ガラスの四配位硼素原子の割合に関するBrayとその共同研究者のNMR測定結果をもとにして, ストラクトン説の原理を用いて, 硼酸塩ガラスのストラクトンの組成を基礎的なガラス組成との関数として論じた. 硼酸塩ガラスの性質の異常な挙動がストラクトンの型の変化として定量的に関係づけられた. ストラクトンの組成が1種類の最小のストラクトンの組に一致する時と, 2種類の最小の組が平衝状態にある時と, 両方の場合について, ストラクトンの組成を推定する過程が提示された. ある与えられた組成で存在するストラクトンの型をきめる主要な因子を論じた.

    Dissolving equations of ions into water from glasses were studied in this paper.
    Many kinds of glasses in system of (1) SiO2-Na2O-TiO2, (2) SiO2-Na2O-V2O5, (3) B2O3-CaO-V2O5, (4) B2O3-BaO-TiO2 and (5) V2O5-P2O5-BaO were melted in electric furnace. The melted glasses were powdered into particles of 35-60 meshes and 2g of them were immersed in 50ml water of 30°, 50°, and 70°C, while being stirred during 10, 20, 40 and 80 minutes respectively. The amounts of Ti, V, P and Ba ions dissolved into the water were measured by chelatometric titration.
    The experimental data were tested by analysis of variance and the results were as follows.
    1) Log of dissolved amounts of V ion from SiO2-Na2O-V2O5 and B2O3-CaO-V2O5 system and log of P ion from V2O5-P2O5-BaO system and log of Ti ion from B2O3-BaO-TiO2 system at constant dissolving temperature were linear function of log of dissolving time.
    2) Log of dissolving amounts of V ion from SiO2-Na2O-V2O5 and B2O3-CaO-V2O5 system and log of Ti ion from B2O3-BaO-TiO2 system and log of P ion from V2O5-P2O5-BaO system at constant dissolving time were linear function of reciprocal of dissolving temperature and the slopes of their equations, that is, the apparent energy of dissolution were 0.5-3×5.103K.

    The dissociation of zircon and effects of the minor addition of 19 oxides on its dissociation were systematically investigated by X-ray quantitative analysis.
    The crystal content of milled fine zircon sand was decreased by treatment with alkaline solution and acid, but its content was increased by heat treatment at 1200°C. The refined effect of zircon was also recognized as to the content of zirconia which crystallized by heat treatment above 1700°C.
    The decomposition of zircon has to be considered as the precondition of dissociation because the decreased content of zircon crystal has not been suited to crystallized zirconia content.
    Effects of the minor additions of various oxides on the temperature of dissociation of zircon were related to reaction between added oxide and silica. When the zircon added 2mol% oxide was treated at 1600°C or 1700°C for one hour, the degree of dissociation of zircon was related to the network-modifying ability or network-forming ability of cation of added oxide.

    The heat transfer mechanism is fundamental to container forming because of the dependence of glass viscosity and other properties on temperature. The objective of this paper is also to learn a knowledge of heat transfer during forming operation.
    A method for determining the coefficient of heat transfer between glass and mould inner surface during glass container forming operation was presented.
    The values of the coefficient of heat transfer h obtained were as follows:
    In blow process h=1500-2300kcal/m2⋅h⋅°C and in press process h=4000-7000kcal/m2⋅h⋅°C on some machines, i.e., IS, New-10 and LA etc., in the temperature ranging gob temperature=1065-1100°C, parison temperature=620-730°C and temperature of mould inner surface=370-495°C.

    β-spodumene (Li2O⋅Al2O3⋅4SiO2) is isostructral with tetragonal keatite (SiO2) Each Li+ ion locates within zeolite-like channels in β-spodumene structure.
    On assumption that the Li+ ion in channel will be able to move easily in higher temperature, we prepared the sintering bodies composed of β-spodumene and β-spodumene-SiO2 solid solutions and measured the electric conductivity of these in varioust emperatures.
    As the result, plots of logarithm of the electric conductivity versus the reciprocal absolute temperature were straight lines. The electric conductivity values of β-spodumene were 2.8×10-9Ω-1cm-1 at 100°C and 1.1×10-2Ωcm-1 at 800°C.

    Monoclinic ZrO2 crystals up to 1mm were grown by localized cooling method using fluxes of Na2B4O7, KF and NaF. It was found that ZrO2 is difficult to dissolve in Na2B4O7 flux melt because of very high viscosity, but it becomes quite soluble by adding KF or NaF component to the flux melt. The best crystals were grown by localized cooling method from Na2B4O7-KF flux, and the maximum size reached to 4×2×2mm on edge length. ZrO2 crystals grown are morphologically divided into two shapes; tabular and prismatic. Single crystals belong to tabular form, and are mainly bounded by {100}, {110}, {111} and {011} faces. Many of prismatic crystals having the well developed {110} face are twinned with the composition planes of (110) and (100).
