In order to manage an athletic club effectively, it iseemss most important to grasp the exact state of the club. Hence, certain method or means by which we while enabled to evaluate the morale are keenly needed. Our present study represents an attempt to conduct a survey to evaluate the morale of athletic club through Likert technique. Subjects were 378 university and high-school athletic club members in Kinki area. questionnaire survey with a scale were administered to them in June and July, 1966.The final was constructed by processing the results of the survey through Likert technique. Main findings are as follows: 1. Item analysis revealed that none of the 20 items included in the morale survey was inadequate. 2. Internal-consistency reliability proved to be γxx=.88, thus showing the high reliability of the survey.

It has long been said that the point of observation, "Metsuke" of a referee is very important in Kendo match, But no practical and scientific study has been done. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to investigate the relative effectiveness of the points of observation developed through their experience in Kendo by means of the eye-mark-recorder which was introduced recently. Based upon our recent study, the following conclusions were indicated: 1) The high ranking Kendoists showed a tendency to watch a crossing point of both swords "Shinais". 2) The first and second ranking Kendoists were inclined to watch the movement of the Shinai and the body of only one side of the players. 3) A beginner vaguely watched the match and did not show the any clear-cut observation.

This is an analytical study of the reaction time of the right middle finger in response to the photo-stimulus. The instrument employed was devised at this laboratory for the simultaneous recording of time of stimulation, the action in response to the stimulus and the electromyogram. The results obtained were as follows; 1) The reaction time of the nerve in response to repetitive stimulation varied within a certain limit after the 40th stimulus. Even with one hundred stimulations, prolongation of the reaction time due to fatigue did not become manifest. 2) The reaction time of the muscle in response to repetitive stimulation showed a gradual prolongation as the number of stimulus increased. 3) With the same amount of the load, a correlation coefficient was obtained between the reaction time of the muscle and the maximal muscle strength with r=-0.2743 (P>0.05) in the female. 4) As the amount of the load was increased, the reaction time of the muscle increased. The reaction time of the right middle finger was 80% (relative to the maximal muscle strength). Which increased with the load to 135.90±6.66 msec. in the male and 202.42±10.84 msec. in the female.

Several tests were given to the subjects in order to study the balance ability. The study consequently showed the following facts: (1) Those who were excellent in balance ability while keeping their eyes open were not necessarily excellent in the same ability while the eyes were closed. This indicated the importance of the vision on balance ability of the subjects. (2) Reliable correlation was found between balance ability and agility, and it was assumed that the balance ability was closely related to the coordination in the total physical fitness. (3) The subjects who were excellent in dynamic balance ability were also excellent in static balance, whereas the subjects who were excellent in static balance were not always excellent in dynamic balance. (4) Physically well trained subjects were superior to the physically untrained in balance ability. The result apparently indicated the effect of physical training to the development of balance ability (5) Except the dynamic balance ability of physically untrained, male subjects were superior to the females in balance ability. (6) The subjects who were excellent in balance ability were good in the tests on the perception of body position, and were more stable on G.S.R. than, others. (7) The point to set the eyes in order to keep the best balance of the subjects was found to be "lower foreword."

A medical inquiry was made about the 2421 students of the Shizuoka University concerning the subjective symptoms they complained they had. The symptoms were classified and studied under three major headings: bodily condition, mental condition, and nervous and sensuous condition (each heading consisting of ten minor items). The results of the inquiry are as follows; (1) As for the major headings, mental complaints are the highest in frequency, followed by bodily complaints and then by nervous and sensuous complaints. (2) As students advance in school year, individual differences become obvious, especially in mental complaints. (3) In comparison of the students in different departments of the University, those in the science and engineering departments show a higher frequency of complaints, especially in mental dissatisfaction. (4) The students who attend The Junior College of Engineering show a remarkable percentage ,of mental complaints. (5) A close relationship can be noticed between the bodily complaints and the nervous and sensuous complaints.

Physical fitness of 1886 M.S.D.F. Crewmen were measured, and the following results were observed.1) In 1500 meter-run and 5O meter-dash of sandbag carry, there was a declining tendency according to the age increase from eighteen years old. The l00 meter-dash, softball throw, pull-up, and long jump showed the highest records in the period from twenty years old to twenty-five years, old. No change was found in back-strength and grip-strength in the period from twenty years old to thirty-four years old. 2) Motor ability of crewmen was negatively related to the length of service. However, this, tendency was vanished except 1500 meter-run, when the effect of age-increase upon motor ability was considered. It was presumed that two-third of the declining tendency of 1500 meter-run was caused by the age and one-third by the length of service. It will be a theme in the future to design some training methods for maintenance and elevation of the endurance.

By examining the characteristics of the constitution of participants in All-Japan High School Athletic Meeting held in the 41st of Showa (1966), the following results were obtained. I. Generally the constitution of the participants is far superior to that of the national, average of the same age. Among boys' events, however, it is considerably inferior as to height, in gymnastics by apparatus, and team floor exercise, and as to weight in archery to the national average of 15 years old. It is also much less among girls' of events, as to height, in gymnastics by apparatus, and as to weight and chest in team floor exercise than that of 16 years old. II. Judging the constitution from a synthetic viewpoint of height, weight and chest measure, the participants can be classed into the following types. 1 ) Thin-tall type : boys...basketball, volleyball girls...volleyball, handball 2) Thick-tall type: boys...Sumo (Japanese wrestling), judo, baseball, rowing girls...rowig, softball 3) Thin-short type: boys...table-tennis, archery, badminton girls...badminton, hockey, team floor exercise 4) Thick-short type: boys...gymnastics by apparatus, tean floor exercise girls...gymnastics by apparatus 5) Middle type: boys...Kendo (Japanese fencing), handball, soft-ball tennis, association football, cycling, hockey girls...basketball, kendo (Japanese fencing), soft-ball tennis, table tennis, archery

Some motor performances have a high correlation with a performer's body-build which is determined by his hereditary factors and not directly related to his learning. Therefore, in school physical education, if it wants to evaluate students in a fair manner, it is necessary to take into account their body builds. In this study, by utilizing T. Mizuno's formula (Regression T-Score=50+(Y-Y^^)_<s_y.x>/1O) for the regression evaluation of motor ability in relation to height or weight, the investigators calculated regression T-Scores of achievements in high jump of junior high school boys as well as T-Scores, and ompared with each other in order to find which woulpcbe better fitted to the evaluation of the performances in high Jump and compiled a chart, for thepractical convenience, of five-rank regression T-Score evaluation by every one contriteness of height increase. In this case,, grades of 24% of the students evaluated by the T-Score method were bettered, 32% of them mere Iowered, aed the aest Were unchanged.
