    Although the Lugeon test is widely used to measure the permeabilities of rock masses, this test has some problems to be solved. One of the largest problems is how to reduce the influence of the turbulent flow created near the bore hole. The turbulent flow may greatly reduce the measured permeability if the permeability of rock mass is large.
    A possible technique to reduce the influence of the flow is to inject a highly viscous liquid instead of water. In this study, we tried to measure the permeability by using a highly viscous liquid at a damsite in the Oita prefecture. This area is mainly composed of fractured welded tuff. It was found that the high viscosity liquid was necessary for the measurement of the permeability in this area because the turbulent flow considerably decreased the measured permeability. A relation between the kinematic viscosity of the liquid used, injection pressure, and the Lugeon value obtained when using water was formulated. As a conclusion, the Lugeon test with a high viscosity liquid is a reliable method for the measurement of rock mass permeability.
    The fracture geometries developed near bore holes were also examined by using a bore hole TV.

    Structural feature of the weathered zone developed in granites was analysed by mirage method, and it was clearified that the increasing rate of P-wave velocity at land surface is proportional to the surface velocity there. This fact suggests that weathering is a kind of diffusion process satisfying the diffusion equation with the surface evaporation boundary condition at the land surface, because that the velocity is proportional to the rock density, namely to the mass concentration, approximately. The upper most portion of the weathered zone has been truncated by erosion and this is reflected in the oblique relation of the iso-velocity plane to the land surface. Mutual relationship between the velocity at the surface and the landform parameters, the slope gradient and the equivalent slope length, was obtaind to discuss the stability of slope in connection with the general topographic profile of the survey area.

    There are about 250, 000 reservoirs being utilized water in Japan. These reservoirs, mainly the bank of these reservoirs, are progressing in deterioration with the lapse of time after their construction. Many reservoirs have been occurring functional disorder by leakage of water near the end of the bank. In many case, the leakage of water occurres at vein streams existing in the bank. Accordingly, it is very important factor that we make the existence of vein streams clear at the time of considering a counterplot with leakage of water.
    Obtaining the information on the existence place of vein streams in the bank of old reservoir, we carried out the investigation method of groundwater by measuring one-meter-depth underground temperature. As the result, it was presumed that some vein streams existed in the bank. In order to obtain positive information on the presumed vein streams, we carried out groundwater prospection and groundwater tracer method at each bore hole which was digged in each vein stream. As the result, the existence of vein streams were proved by these examinations.
    On the basis of the reasult, pertinent preventive works on leakage of water was carried out at the bank of the old reservoir. After the preventive works, underground temperature survey was carried out at same place of the bank again. And we could obtain very good result on the effect of the preventive works.
    As mentioned above, we would like to consider that underground temperature suvey method is very useful method for detecting leakage places of water at on old reservoir.
