The sulfation reaction of ethylene-vinylalcohol copolymer with N, N-dimethylformamide-SO
3 complex was carried out, and the relation between components of polyalkylene sulfate and the conductivity was examined.
The sulfration reaction proceeded homogeneously and quantitatively but thpercentage(X) of sulfuric acid groups in the polymers decreased with increasing reaction time at 80C.
The surface resistivity of the polymer(X=32.0%) was 10
6 -10
9 cm at relative humidity (RH) ranging from 15 to 85%. Both the surface resistivity of the po1ymer and its dependence on the change of RH decreased linearly with increasing X.
