ジャーナル フリーChanges of acute phase of atherosclerosis were studied in rats loaded witha mixture of massive doses of vitamin D. and cholesterol by a simple method similar toAltmans. Preferential sites of calcification and degeneration were observed in the vascularsystenn and parenchymal tissues. In the aorta, marked ca1cifica[ion and degeneration wereseen in the elastic membranes autd smooth muscle cells of the tunica media. At the sametime, an apparent accumulation of lipid droplets was recognized in the calcified and degenerated medial areas. On the other hand, in such muscular arteries as those of thecoronary arterial system wI?ich had undergone marked medial necrosis, lipid depositionwas very slight, if any, in most cases. Reparative changes occurred in affected blood vesselsshortly after the start of vitamin D.-loading. In the organs other than the arterial system, S(XCI( parenchymal degeneration and calcification were observed in the heart, kidneys, stomach, intestine and lungs, and only slight changes in the liver, spleen, pancreas, choroidplexus and adrenals.抄録全体を表示PDF形式でダウンロード (2321K) -

ジャーナル フリーTo analyze the antigcnic component of Haettnojohilus paragallinarutn (Hpg), serological and immunological properties of a heat-stable antigen in the culture superrtateof Hpg were studied. At least two different antigens were found in the culture supernateof various Hpg strains by the agar get precipitation (AGP) test. They NVCT( separated ir?tc>two fractions by get filtration. -[lte Iteat-stable antigen was eluted at void volume by getfiltration with Sepharose 6B and 2B, but not any other. The heat-stable antigen did notlose antigenicity when it was lacated at l2lC for 30 minutes. The AGP test revealed tltatthe heat-stable antigen was not type-specific to az?y Hpg serotype. Moreover, lipopolysaccharide (LPS), which had I>een isolated from Hpg cells by XVestphals methods, wasfound to have antigenicity common to Hpg serotypes. In the AGP test, tlae t?eat-stableantigen showed an identity reaction to the LPS product. Neither heat-stable antigett inthe culture supernate nor LPS arntigen of Hpg strain 221 presented a protective effect wlneninjected into chickens, or agglutinated chicken red blood cells. Furthermore, no measurable hemagglutination-in1?ibition antibody was found in chickens immunized w"itlt botltantigens. ジャーナル フリーDistribution and frequency of gastrin cells in the duck digestive tract weresttzdiecl immunocytochemically. Ihese cells, which react with antiserum to gastrin, showedbrownish red cytoplasm when treated by the peroxidase-labeled antibody method. Theywere found in the epithelia of the gizzard, the pyloric region and the small intestine, butnot of any other region. The gasttin cell population per unit area was the largest in tltepyloric region which was followed by the cranial part of the gizzard. There was a largeregional difference in it. Gastrin cells decreased gradually in number in the duodenum, iletzm and jejunum in the order listed. The gas, trin cells of the pyloric region identifiedimmtznocytochemically were examined ultrastructurally by the semithin/ultrathin sectiontecltnique with resin-embedded specimens. They were characterized by tlae presence ofrottnd and medium-sized endocrine granules (235f49.8nm in mean diameter). Most oftlaem ltad a round and dense core separated from the limiting membrane by a "halo", bttt a few of them were empty or contained vague or cloud-like material. The gastrincells were noted among the type I cells mentioned in the previous paper. ジャーナル フリーThe developmental plaarmacology of endotoxin (Escherichia coli UKT-b) inthe rabbit was studied. When newborn rabbits were kept at a high ambient temperatureat which its basal metabolism was considered minimal, a small but definite febrile responsewas observed to endotoxin administered intravenously (0.5 pg/kg), subcutaneously (l pg/kg)or intracisternally (0.1 ng/kg). At room temperature (25C), such a significant febrileresponse was not observed. The febrile response increased in magnitude with the advancein age. Susceptibilities to the lethal effect of intravenous or intracisternal endotoxin werehigh in rabbits from the lst to 3rd day of life. They decreased over a period from the 7thto 21st day of life. Thereafter, tltey increased with the advance in age. Neither skinreaction nor shock by endotoxin was observed in rabbits under 21 days of age. Theseresults suggested that the receptor-effector mechanisms to endotoxin might be developedfairly in the CNS, but very poorly in the peripheral organs of rabbits in the early postnatal age.抄録全体を表示PDF形式でダウンロード (745K) -

ジャーナル フリーA diagnosis of juvenile bovine leukosis was made in elexen animals, whiclnwere examined to clarify the pathologic situation in the bovine leukosis. These animalshad been selected by routine laboratory examinations from among 178 animals with bovineleukosis during the past I l years. Clinico-pathologically, three of the eleven animals weretentatively classified into the thymic type, five into the calf type and the other three intothe intermediate type in which both thymic and calf type lesions were associated. TIT(ldistribution of lesions was somewhat different from that of the adult type of leukosis. Thecalf and thymic types seemed to be located at the two extremes in a single entity of juvenileleukosis. As exceptional cases, one case of the calf type had more than 160 tutrorotzslesions in the subcutis, and another one of the intermediate type a neoplastic invasioninto osseous tissues in the cranial region. The neoplastic cells were not different fromthose of adult type, and Iymphocytic in nature in eight and reticulum-cellular in tltreeanimals. ジャーナル フリーImmunogenicity of Haemophilus paragallinarutn strains belonging to Savvatasserotypes 1 and 2 was investigated. Eleven isolates tested could be divided into two immunotypes which correlated closely with serotype-specificity, one corresponding to strain221 of serotype 1 and the other to II-18 of 2. No cross-protection was observed betwesttthese immunotypes, even though in the hyper-immunized chickens. The bacterins preparedfrom serotype 2 strains never produced hemagglutination-inltibition antibody, but gaveprotection to the chickens against challenge-exposure with homologous type strains.Significantly individual variation in the agglutinin production was observed among tltechickens inoculated with single dose, which had enough protection. ジャーナル フリーA canine malignant melanoma cell line (CMMe) was established from tiremetastatic foci of a malignant oral melanoma. The cell line has been subcultured 130passages during 3.5 years, and has continued to produce melanin pigment in monolayercultures. The cell line generally consists of triangular and fusiform cells with numerousmelanin grannies. Melanosomes in various stages of maturation were detected in most ofthe cultured cells by electron microscopy. The population doubling time of the cell linewas 68 hours at the 25th passage, and chromosome number showed wide distribution from44 to 106 with a mode of 52.
