Pharyngeal culture was done for the isolation of A-gz oup hemolytic streptococci in the patients of scarlet fever who were admitted to Tokyo Metropolitan Bokuto Hosiptal during the period from June, 1970 to June, 1975.
Drug susceptibility tests were performed on the isolates and the type distribution was also investigated on some number of them.
Prevalence rate of TC-resistant strains was 39% in 1970, and, with the decreasing tendency year by year, it dwindled to 12.6% in 1972, 1.5% in 1974, and none in 1975.
EM-resistant strains were first isolated at a rate of two strains a year (1.8%) in 1971 and with an increasing trend, the rate went up to 11.6%, 15 out of 129 isolates, in 1975.
In the four-year period from 1972 to 1975, 21 kinds of types were isolated and the most prevalent type was confermed to be Type 12 during that period.
