Cephalexin was clinically applied to 404 cases with ear, nose and throat infections and the following results were obtained.
1) Excellent or good clinical response was observed in 76.1% of them.
2) Among the disease categories studied, furuncle of the ear and of the nose, acute tonsillitis and acute pharyngolaryngitis were the most responsive to cephalexin.
3) The effective results were obtained in the most of gram possitive cocci infections and some of gram negative bacilli infections. No clinical response to pseudomonas aeruginosa was observed.
4) The clinical results coincided well with
in vitro sensitivity of the bacteria isolated from each patient.
5) Side effects were observed in 6.6% of this series. Most of them were gastrointestinal disorders. In a few cases exanthema, dizziness or stomatitis were noted.
