This survey descrives on expert systems in image processing field. They are classified into, for example, (1) consultation of image processing, (2) automatic program generation for image processing, (3) use of frame work of expert systems, (4) automatic extraction of image features, (5) expert system including image processing as a part. It should be noted in dealing with images by expert systems that the expert system is only a technique or a tool for image processing and do not generate the original knowledge about the image processing. The important things are effective knowledge for the image processing themselves to the image processing which must be collected by human.

We are developing an health screening system for color eye fundus photography. The system is designed to detect the first signs of adult deseases. In this case, it is important to detect and trace blood vessels. This paper describes on a method of finding papillary disk by Hough transform and tracing from there blood vessels by a second order derivative Gaussian filter. The width of the blood vessel is obtained as the zero-crossing interval of the filter output. The filter is adjustable to the current width of the blood vessel being traced.
New dynamic image processing techniques are proposed for measuring velocity-information in dynamic scenes. The techniques are based on temporal correlation analysis of gray-level changes at each pixel. A speed-distribution of moving crowded particles and a velocity-field of hydrodynamic scenes are evaluated by autocorrelation analysis and mutual-correlation analysis, respectively.
This paper describes an experimental study of new digital video communication using a display of small screen size (less than 4 inch) and 64 Kbps low bandwidth digital network. It has been shown that a display with smaller screen size, less pixels per picture frame (about 100×100) and slower frame frequency (5〜10 Hz) are necessary for certain limited uses such as viewing a face and moderate motion of a person
