IMAGICA "CIS Electronic Optical Suite," developed by Composite Image Systems (LOS Angeles, U.S.), is the combination of telecine and video composite de-vices. Telecine device called "Electronic Optical Printer", installed with special movements, can achieve the precise pin-registered transfer of visual images of the highest quality from the film medium to the electronic medium of video. Series of video composite devices are installed in a single suite, therefore, operator can adjust color balance and get a suitable matte for the desired image, by looking at the monitor. The composited image is output to D-1 format, and does not get any degradation.
A full digital mixing console for broadcasting has been developed, in which not only all control functions but also the signal processing are performed with digital hardware, Introducing this console, all producing process of sound, i.e, from material recording to balancing and broadcasting, will be possible in the digital domain, Down sizing of the console is achieved by the virtual design of various functions, and then it has been possible for a balance engineer to operate the console sitting in the center of two frontal loudspeakers. This paper describes the development of a full digital mixing console and it's man-machine interface which makes the compact console perform as same as a huge console with many faders.
NHK has been producing a number of HD programs, such as operas performances and the artical plays from around the world. For these programs, a lot of captions are needed as they are in foreign languages. This system has the ability to generate HDTV font images in real-time and superimpose them on the original HDTV programs simultaneously. The development of this system provides us with an opportunity to produce more programs in highter quality and also to work more efficiently with our time.
