Linear voice coil motor is employed to realize high track density and fast access time in large capacity floppy disk drive using the sector servo system. It, however, has weak vibration proof characteristics, compared with stepping motors used in conventional FDDs. The authors studied a two-degree-of-freedom control system for improving the vibration proof characteristics. The system is constructed by using an acceleration estimator and an acceleration controller by incorporating a linear encoder signal with a sector tracking servo signal.
