    Improving the vacuum system of the vacuum fusion gas analyser, three types of glass-made mercury vapour pump, UMD-50G, MD-50G, and ME-20G, which are shown in the figures were investigated in their designs and performances.
    MD-50G and ME-20G was designed specially for the gas extraction pump and the compression pump respectively. The former has high pumping speed and the latter has excellent critical backing pressure characteristics even if the through-put is negligibly small.
    The performances are shown in tables, through-put -pressure curves and speed-pressure curves in detail, and furthermore, the principles of designing and the mechanisms of pumping action are discussed.
