The computer program NEC2 for the analysis of wire antennas, produced by G. J. Burke et al., is investigated. In this program, the electric field integral equation (EFIE) is solved with the current expansion functions of three term sinusoidal functions. The feed point current on the solid cylindrical dipole antennas with length of 0.4 to 1.0 wavelength and with radius of 0.0002 to 0.01 wavelength are compared with the reference data calculated by EFIE with the current expansion functions satisfying the edge conditions at the antenna ends.

A deformed loop antenna integrated with transistor circuit for television receiver is presented and its broadband operation is reported. A loop antenna and a coplanar waveguide (CPW) is printed on a thin dielectric film. The CPW is located perpendicularly to the plane of loop. The silicon transistor 2SC3604 is integrated between the feed point of loop and the CPW. Actual gains more than 3.5dBd (relative values to the halfwave dipole antenna) are obtained at the frequencies for television channels 1-12 from 90 to 108MHz, and more than 6.5dBd for 13-62 channels from 470 to 770MHz in Japan.

For prediction of radio propagation in microcellular system, it is necessary to investigate not only the line-of-sight path but also the out-of-sight path. In this paper, the electric field intensities in shadow regions are calculated by using GTD as well as Knife-Edge diffraction. Using GTD the diffractions are usually different between parallel and perpendicular polarizations except at a certain incident angle. It can be also found that beyond diffractions loss of about 30dB referred to the free space Knife-Edge diffraction produces almost the same results compared with GTD diffraction.

In order to utilize the higher frequency band such as of 21 GHz for the satellite broadcasting, a countermeasure may be necessary against the heavy rain attenuation. This paper describes a system with the multi-beam antenna of 4 to 15 beams to cover the whole land of Japan. In order to simulate this system, the use of rain data in the meteorological AMeDAS data is made. By the use of this system an efficient service may be available by a 110W transmitter with 15-beam system at the 21 GHz band.

In Bangkok, Thailand, also the frequency band of 50MHz is used for television broadcasting. The viewer of TV programs dissatisfied about television ghost signals of unaccountable. The TV signals level varied in sine wave form, and was to repeat the rise and fall of the signal level several tens times. The quasi-periodic level fluctuation exceeding 2 dB was sometimes more than 10 dB. Based on the results of the observation of the quasi-periodic level fluctuation over long years, it is shown that it is related to the transit of airplane and intensity of the received signal level.

Although the PCM sound broadcasting is low power transmission, it also can be better reception with small aperture antenna that we know. And if want to get the good quality with PCM sound broadcasting, there must be solved the relation between bit-error ratio and propagation characteristics of satellite signal for reception. In this paper, we will report the relation between propagation characteristics and bit-error ratio.

We, NTV have made up programs in Virtual Studio since April, 1996. This virtual system creates impressive pictures from our imaginations, and it can also make audience feel like being in those situations. That's to say, this system builds a set out of computer graphics on real-time, using camera shots such as a person or backgrounds changing time to time. So, we have succeeded in making sets effective, gigentic, fantastic. We are proud to present this new system, the first in-house facility in Japan, to use it for daily scheduled programs.

This paper describes TV live programs transmitted from a running ship on the Chang Jiang river in China via a communication satellite. We used a newly developed satellite accessible portable transmitter which was able to point an antenna to the communication satellite automatically. We covered 650 kilometers while doing the live broadcasting in four days. Life of people living in Chinese cities, grand sights ofthe three gorges and a site of the dam construction were reported in the live programs.

A lot of Hi-Vision theaters are suffering with few visitors to come even though their video systems are new. We developed a video-control system which is very powerful to this problem. This system presents Hi-Vision interactive programs and the programs are renewed automatically every time by combining short program packets. Saga City Library is installed with this system and is attracting a lot of visitors.
