The secondary electron emission characteristics are measured and discussed concerning the properties of MgO and new dielectric materials which have transmissive properties to ultravlolet rays of 147 nm. The aging charagteristics, paoperties of luminance and luminous efficiency were measured by the fabricated panels with the tested dielectric materials.
Xe metastable atom densities in an AC PDP cell are measured in the sustain mode by laser spectro-microscopy. It has been found that : (1) The peak density at the cathode side is nearly equal to the density at the anode side, (2) The density at the center is about 1/3 of the value at the cathode side, (3) The rise time of the density is 0.2μs with a delay of about 0.2-0.3μs. The decay time is 3μs at cathode side, and 1.8μs at anode side, respectively, which agree with an estimated value of 3.1 μs, (4) In the sustain mode AC PDP operates with pulse memory function like as DC PDP.
Paschen curve (relation between breakdown voltage and pd (p : pressure, d : electrode distance )) was calculated by one-dimcusional computer simulation using fluid model under the local field approximation. Relations between priming electron density and breakdown voltage were also calculated in a positive column cell by varying the values of pd.
The performance of PDP has been improved in the area of brightness and contrast, garnering the satisfying reputation in image quality for 42-in.-diagonal AC-PDP. While significant advances are still required for the HDTV quality in the future products. We have developed an accurate and efficient evaluation for the motion picture disturbance for PDPs, modeling the virtual pixel on human retina. Simulation and the actual 42-in. panels show very close results, indicating the model used is reasonable.
Poly (3-dodecylthiophene, PAT12) was synthesized as a conjugated polymer material for organic EL devices. The single layer organic EL devices and the double layer ones were fabricated by consisting of PAT12 film and deposition of Alq3 on PAT12,respectively. From the measured results of V-I and V-L characteristics to these devices, it is clarified that the double layer configuration is very effective in improving luminous efficiency. The peak in EL emission spectrum was observed to shift to short wavelength under the application of strong voltage.
