In this study, for powder phosphers of ful color field emission display(FED), We are trying to synthesize phosphers of sub micron and high luminescence. Fine-particle Y_2O_2S:Eu red phosphor was synthesized by adding sodium sulfate as a sulfurizing agent to yrtrium(europium) oxide precursor obtained from mixture of citric acid, yttrium nitride and europium chloride. It was observed that pre-annealed phosphors yield smaller particle size compared with non pre-annealed phosphors.Synthesized phosphors were analyzed using X-ray diffraction and scanning electronmicroscopy to interpret the observed luminescent properties. The results indicate that the particle size of pre-annealed phosphers are smaller than that of non pre-annealed phophers. And their CL luminances indicate same luminance.

Current blue PDF phosphor BaMgAl_<10>O_<17>:Eu^2+(BAM) has problems of degradation for the heat treatment and vacuum ultraviolet irradiation. We have proposed that CaMgSi0_20_6:Eu^<2+>(CMS:Eu^<2+>), having a stability for heat treatment and vacuum ultraviolet irradiation, is a candidate for a new blue PDF phosphor. The luminescent characteristics of CMS:Eu^<2+> seriously vary with Eu concentration because the EuF_3 powder used as a source material affects the formational host CMS. To investigate the optimum Eu and F concentration, we synthesized the CMS:Eu^<2+> powders with keeping the same F concentration for all samples(0.005<F(mol)< 0.1). After the heat treatment with 600 deg.C, the emission intensity of BAM decreased to 60% of the initial intensity, while the intensity of CMS:Eu^<2+> oped with 0.01 mol F increased and its intensity is more than 70% of initial intensity of BAM.

Current PDP phosphors have several problems to be solved, such as the luminance degradation (blue) and luminance saturation (green). CaMgSi_2O_6:Eu^<2+>(CMS:Eu^<2+>) is recently expected to be a new blue PDF phosphor, however its initial luminance is still lower than that of BaMgAl_<10>O_<17>:Eu^<2+>. To improve the luminescent characteristics of CMS:Eu^<2+>, we performed Gd^<3+> co-doping for CMS:Eu^<2+>. Although the excitation intensity at 147 nm decreases, we found the new excitation band around 172 nm by Gd^<3+>. To improve the luminance saturation of green phosphor, we also tried to prepare green phosphor CMS doped with Tb^<3+> and Na^+ as a charge compensator. However we cannot obtain green emitting CMS:Tb^<3+> at present.

It was found that luminescent characteristics of PVCz based polymer light-emitting diode are significantly influenced by the doping of Coumarin6(C6) into the host matrix. The device exhibits a maximum luminance and pure green emission with peak wavelength of 510nm at about lwt.% of C6. In contrast, the threshold voltage increases monotonically with C6 concentration at least within 10.3wt.%. We additionally found three kinds of excitation bands, which are originated in energy transfer process from the host(PVCz),electron transporting material(Alq3) and direct excitation of emission center(C6) respectively. The efficiency was improved by a factor of one and half in the optimized C6 concentatin.

The combination of organic emissive and silicon electronic devices has high potential for new photo-electrical hybrid system. It was reported so far that organic light-emitting diode was prepared on Si substrate by using a buffer layer such as SiO2 and ITO. In this research, porous Si buffer layer was successfully applied to single layer polymer LEDs by controlling the energy band gap and its surface morphology. In the device, Alc^ and TPD were doped into the polymer host as an electron and hole transporting materials for the purpose of charge balance. It was found that the surface treatment of Si substrate with low current density in short time process is suitable for making porous Si buffer layer at least in the range of 5-30mA/cm^2 and 2-30min respectively. The luminescent characteristics were rather improved probably by hole-blocking effect of porous Si.

Ion-induced secondary electron emission characteristics is one of the most important factors to evaluate protecting materials for ac-Plasma Displays. In the present paper we measured values of γ_1 of thin-films which are evaporated from source of sintered MgO by using automatic measuring system. The measured results are reproducible and reliable. In consequence, it is clarified that the value of γ_1 changed as the irradiation time of ion beam proceeds, and the thin- film made of sintered MgO has large value of γ i as same as that of crystalline MgO.

We previously found that the reflective LCDs that use single polarizer, double-layered TN-LCDs (DTN-LCDs) with λ/4-plate and /or a retardation film exhibit an achromatic image of superior luminous reflectance of about 50% and a high contrast ratio, even if the on-voltage is reduced to 2V. In this paper, we numerically analyzed the influence of the material parameters of a liquid crystal on the electro-optical properties in the LCDs in order to confirm the possibility of reducing power consumption further. Our results demonstrate that ultra-low-power (1V in the on-state) reflective TFT-LCDs with high-quality images can be realized if a liquid-crystal material with large values of K_<33>/K_<11> and Δ ε/ε_⊥ can be developed. The power consumption can thus be decreased to one-ninth of that of the presently used reflective 3V TFT-LCD, while maintaining a high-quality image.

Although In-Plane Switching (IPS) LCDs are known to show a excellent viewing angle characteristics, they have the problem that the aperture ration of the LCD panel is relatively low. In order to improve the aperture ration, it was shown that the realization of a weak anchoring state in the LCD was very important. But this weak anchoring state also induced the Hysteresis phenomenon in the VT characteristics, which degrades image quality of the display. In this paper, we have proposed new methods to realize a weak anchoring state without inducing the Hysteresis phenomenon, and some preliminary experimental results are presented.

We are just studying reduction of frame memory for Feedforward Driving(FFD). Evaluation of high-definition image has already demonstrated that applying an image compression technology to memory reduction is dominant over a quantization method. However, performance of FFD with memory reduction probably depends on properties of original image. Accordingly, we compared the performance of the FFD with image compression and quantization using several different types of images. The evaluation revealed that the application of image compression technology also has much effect on the standard definition image.
