CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS FREE ACCESSWe propose a 2nd-order delta-sigma ADC using a TAD :Time Analog to Digital converter as 1st stage. The TAD consists of a voltage-controlled ring-delay line with even number of CMOS inverters for lower-bits output and a counter for upper-bits one; it realizes all-digital ADC configuration. When a digital integrator is used for first stage of higher-order delta-sigma modulation, 1st-order noise-shaping characteristic dominates quantization noise components. However, using TAD for the 1st stage, 2nd-order noise-shaping characteristic can be realized. We also confirmed the noise characteristics by numerical simulation. CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS FREE ACCESSUsing terahertz waves for imaging is gaining increased interest. A CMOS cascode amplifier biased near the threshold voltage of a MOSFET for terahertz direct detection is proposed. A CMOS terahertz imaging circuit is designed and fabricated on the basis of a low-cost 180-nm CMOS process technology. The imaging circuit consists of a microstrip patch antenna, an impedance-matching circuit, and the direct detector. The imaging circuit achieve a responsivity of 51.9 kV/W at 0.915 THz and noise equivalent power (NEP) of 358 pW/Hz1/2 at modulation frequency of 31 Hz. NEP is estimated to be reduced to 33.5 pW/Hz1/2 at 10 kHz. The imaging circuit occupies 250 × 180 m. These results suggest that cost-efficient terahertz imaging is possible in the near future.View full abstractDownload PDF (880K) -

CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS FREE ACCESSRecent progresses in the research of two types of sub-terahertz (THz)/THz devices based on two-dimensional plasmons in transistor structures, asymmetric dual-grating-gate (A-DGG) InP HEMTs for the detection and A-DGG graphene FETs for the emission, are reviewed. For the A-DGG InP HEMTs, their operation principle, broadband characteristics of their intrinsic detection responsivities, and strategies for improvement of their external responsivities are discussed. CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS FREE ACCESSThis paper presents the experimental results of a pixel detector device fabricated with 3-μmφ gold cone bump connections. The cone bumps are formed by NpD (Nano-particle deposition) method. The resistance per bump is approximately 0.25Ω with a robust junction formed. The influence of the stress caused by the bump junction on the MOS characteristics is also investigated.
