The BER performance of a 1024 QAM cable transmission signal having interference is experimentally evaluated. A VSB-AM signal and an OFDM signal are considered as the possible co-channel interference on the cable TV receiver from terrestrial broadcasting. We demonstrate that the OFDM signal statistically behaves like Gaussian noise on the QAM receiver. Also the inter-modulation distortion effect on a 1024 QAM signal, induced from nine frequency-division-multiplexed 64 QAM or nine OFDM signals in the nonlinear operation of a cable TV amplifier, is also discussed by showing the probability distribution function (PDF).

We developed a receiver that receives divided high-speed MPEG-2 TS signals transmitted by multiple carriers over cable TV, and recomposes them into the original TS. We confirmed that a new descriptor presented enables the receiver automatic receiving and re-composition, by our experiments.

In a TV navigation system, the database which stores SI data for the contents of a program and its broadcast schedule is indispensable, which provides for viewers to retrieve the program easily and to obtain recommended program. By the present digital broadcasting channel we can get easily the information data for the name of each program, program description with genre division, broadcasting schedule time. This paper reports results on studies of the optimum database construction and statistical tendency of received SI data using the present BS and 110° CS digital broadcasting.

Most digital broadcasting systems are shifting to HDTV and a highly efficient HDTv codec whi・h can maintain an HDTV broadcasting quality under a auite narrow bandwidth capacity is reauired to be developed. ln our previous study, ootimal MPEG'2 encoder design had been established for the use under the bit-rate around lOMbps. In this paper, key technologies included in the orooosed encoder are introduced, and performance evaluation is conducted under the objectivequality and the subjective quality, respectively.

In the previous paper, the authors proposed the cross-referencing template matching algorithm wherein displacements (motion vectors) of adjacent templates are taken account into estimating the displacement of current template. This paper discusses a new method for evaluating the robustness of motion estimation algorithm including the cross-referencing template matching algorithm. The proposed method uses test image sequences corrupted by adding white gaussian random noises. Simulation experiments are conducted applying the proposed method to cross-referencing template matching algorithm.

Digital terrestrial broadcasting (ISDB-T) will support mobile reception, such as on the street or in an automobile. Then the mobile reception experiment of data broadcasting services was conducted in order to survey the condition of reception by using portable receiver. The result was that the receiver was some time obtaining data contents completely in many field points where it was difficult to receive correctly. And so we propose data multiplexing scheme, which can shorten the time required for receiving data contents in mobile reception environment in which significant errors may occur.

The multi-media environment requires broadcasters to provide viewers with attractive program content over a wide variety of services. We at NHK Tokyo have been broadcasting the programs using our highly reliable computer control system which enables precisely scheduled transmission on eleven individual channels around the clock. Our aim is to give extensive consideration to the stable management of the whole program transmission system, including the human factors in system operation as well as the facilities and structural aspects. In this report, we describe how the performance and reliability of the large-scale transmission control system can be improved. We also discuss an effective management method utilizing a human support system that enables engineers to help complicated operations in a large-scale computer control system fault.

NTV conducted "the Hakone-Ekiden mobile phone quiz" in this new year. At this event, viewers can easily participate in real time quiz events and other events while watching Hakone-Ekiden program. We introduced high performance interactive servers at this event which can handle 15 thousands accesses at the same time. We also introduced management terminals to produce quiz contents then and there. We report results of this event.

Chugoku Broadcasting made an update in radio control system(APM). With the update we made introduction of a music server corresponding to BWF format, and we have taken centralized control of sound source by connecting not only master control system but also produce system in each studio to the server by network. By taking control of sound source with it we aim not only at tape-less of 6mm tape but also to do away with many kinds of media (DAT,MD,etc.)being mixed, and finally to make programs efficiently through non-linear editing.
