The 13th channel of the DTTB (Digital terrestrial television broadcasting) signal is the lowest frequency in the DTTB and adjacent to wireless communicator signal for taxi on frequency band. Therefore, the 13th channel has a possibility to degrade if wireless communicator for taxi is used near the receiving antenna for DTTB. We once mentioned degradations of the DTTB signal by wireless communicator for taxi under the multipath environment. In this paper, we mention comparison with reception characteristics of filters in indoor and field experiments. We also describe improvement by the filters.

In the DTTB (Digital terrestrial Television Broadcasting), service availability is determined by BER (Bit Error Rate) after decode. BER is decreased by improving error correction capability. In this paper, we propose new Viterbi decoding method using error information of Reed-Solomon decode and C/N, and describe the results of the simulation about the effectiveness of the method and comparison with the performance of commercial receivers.

In resize of a picture, we had studied the operators to detect directions and 12 directional adaptive interpolation for an arbitrary image magnification. In this report, we propose speeding up of processing. We realize high speed of about three times faster without degradation of PSNR, by using tree structure. In the experiment, we perform subjective image quality assessment of magnified images by 3.8. We also evaluate the PSNR compared to the original image. By the proposed method, jaggy is reduced at the edge. PSNR value is equal to the fixed interpolation.

We have proposed the sequential color system for use as a video format. To realize this system, the conversion to whole RGB picture with the interpolation of missing color plane using motion compensation is required. We use normalized contour picture for the motion estimation of different color planes, because each color planes appear sequentially by a frame. However, there are many incorrect vectors in comparison with same color plane. We propose how to choose suitable motion vectors using evaluation of reliability of motion vector between plural color planes. As results of experiments, it is recognized that PSNR and subjective picture quality of conversion picture is improved.

Multi-user MIMO system requires precise control of transmit signals in order to suppress inter-user interference. Therefore, precise synchronization of timing and carrier frequency is required between base station and mobile stations. For multi-user MIMO transmission experiments, this paper presents timing and frequency synchronization schemes based on received signals in each mobile stations. The performance of these schemes is evaluated by the computer simulation. In-lab transmission experiments are carried out using a fading emulator and the BER performance using these schemes is compared with the performance using GPS signals.

Multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) transmission have been expected to improve the spectrum efficiency in wireless communications. This paper presents a universal software radio peripheral (USRP) implementation of mobile terminals for a MU-MIMO testbed. USRP is a low-cost software defined radio terminal. A host PC with general purpose OS controls USRP by using application program interface of USRP hardware driver which is a driver software for USRP. In this paper, frequency stability and timing specifications are represented. Moreover, transmission performance of mobile terminals is evaluated in terms of error vector magnitude.

Superposed multicarrier transmission scheme is known to improve frequency utilization efficiency where several wireless systems share spectrum. In the superposed multicarrier transmission scheme, interference can be suppressed by setting corresponding initial log likelihood ratio (LLR) to proper values determined by desired to undesired power ratio (DUR). To estimate the interference power and affected subcarriers, a scheme based on a residual power calculated by subtracting hard replica signal from received signal is proposed. This scheme uses CRC check and generates replica from only error-free signals. Thus, it requires longer detection period if the noise power or the interference power is large because less correct packets are received. Moreover, the detectable type of interference is limited to only wide-band interference. In this report we propose a superposed band and interference power estimation technique based on the residual power. Our proposed scheme adopts Robust LLRs and averages the residual power over all packets even if these contain bit errors. Simulation results indicate that the proposed method performs fast interference detection while maintain the conventional DUR estimation accuracy.

We developed a real-time monitoring system for wireless Hi-Vision TV (HDTV) camera, called the "Millimeter-wave Mobile Camera", which can transmit HDTV pictures with high-capacity and low delay. This system can analyze the propagation characteristics and transmission characteristics for MIMO transmission such as receiving CNR of each receiver, delay profile and correlations among MIMO propagation paths and display them on a PC screen. In this paper, we give the detailed description of the monitoring system for millimeter-wave mobile camera and show the measurement result in NHK hall by the system.

We have studied and developed transmission and reception antennas for wireless Hi-Vision TV (HDTV) camera, called the "Millimeter-wave Mobile Camera" using 42 GHz band. In this report, we modeled and developed transmission and reception antennas which have different half-power angles and evaluated them in NHK hall. As a result of propagation experiments in NHK hall, we found that transmission characteristics can be improved by using a transmission antenna with wide beam and a reception antenna with narrow beam.

The "NOTTV" is the Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting serviced by "mmbi, Inc.". The service stands on "ISDB-Tmm", based on "ISDB-T" what has so many knowhow and technologies of reception. Although, the reception environment is different from "ISDB-T". In this paper, we describe the development of a new measure against poor "Mobacas" reception at mobile phone retail stores.

In order to estimate the service area of the VHF-Low multimedia broadcasting, it is important to investigate the reception field strength variation under mobile reception. In this paper, it was found that the location variability of the VHF-Low multimedia broadcasting by the field experiment was almost same value as the report of the Information and Communications Council. And then, the calculated service area was mostly in agreement with the area where the correct reception ratio measured by the field experiment was more than 95%.

We are developing a next-generation terrestrial broadcasting transmission system for handheld and mobile reception which uses two transmission antennas and two receiving antennas (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output: MIMO) and be able to transmit large capacity contents stably. In the case of MIMO system, channel impulse responses from each transmission antenna to each reception antenna must be estimated. We have studied the estimation method by Walsh coded scattered pilot. This paper describes the computer simulation results of the SFBC-MIMO and the SDM-MIMO transmission system under mobile reception environments. As the result, the SFBC-MIMO system reception performance is better than SDM-MIMO system when the transmission rate is 3bits/Hz or less.

The environment surrounding content delivery has significantly changed since the early 1990s, when todays' broadcasting systems were developed; content, client terminals, and delivery networks have diversified. To respond effectively to this increasing diversity, new media transport technologies are required to maximize the benefits of heterogeneous networks such as broadcast and broadband networks. This report presents functional comparison of MPEG-2 TS, RTP that are used in conventional broadcasting systems, with MMT that is being developed in MPEG. This comparison shows that MMT is the most effective media transport method for next-generation broadcasting systems. How to carry the MMT in broadcasting systems is also studied. This study shows that IP multiplexing scheme in broadcasting systems is the most efficient way to carry IP packets containing MMT Packets.

About file-based video transmission, the research of the authors is an advanced microwave Field Pick-up Unit (FPU) achieving high efficiency by applying retransmission control. In this report, we focused the retransmission packet size as a parameter of Type-II HARQ suitable for TDD, and examined the throughput and delay of this system. From the result of a simulation using 16QAM-OFDM under AWGN channel, smaller retransmission packet brought high throughput, and increased retransmission delay in low CNR. Retransmission delay decreases throughput in the transport layer over long-distance transmission for bi-directional FPU using TDD. Therefore, it was confirmed that applying large packet in high CNR and applying small packet in low CNR bring high efficiency.
