This paper reports on "synergy" of broadcasting and internet in the coming broadband age. Several issues on specifically changing situations in the broadband age are also considered. Systems and technical issues to realize the synergy are also reported. Our own trial systems are also introduced.

We propoesd LiveWatch which notifies the scene which an user want to see according to the setting of the user with live semantic information as one of systems which achieve interactive service for live broadcasts. LiveWatch service is redefined with the service that presents information on live to the user and that causes the action when the condition which the user specifies consists. Then, it is possible to be able to do various LiveWatch service besides "Notification". In this paper, we investigate the problem when various LiveWatch service is achieved, and describe a construction method of LiveWatch system.

A store-and-forward(S&F) viveo transmission system is proposed. The S&F approach is employed in order to avoid picture quality degradation due to the transmission over IP network, while realtime transmission is not guaranteed in this approach. In this paper, a simple system for point-to-point transmission is expanded to the mesh network by incorporating a unified management, and then the "VAST-web" system using Web technology is developed. It can provide users that search and transmission service through a Web browser. The system is also configured highly secure and can be shared by multiple users.

BS digital receiver has a low speed analog modem for interactive service such as interactive TV program, tele-commerce, and etc. A means of communication by analog modem is popular. But customer has to wait because modem takes long time to connect. Moreover, if customer use is heavy, a telephone switch will congest. These circumstances make interactive service inconvenient. On the other hand, the internet has come into wide use recently. We investigated a way to solve these problems and developed a Protocol Transformation Equipment(PTE) for the purpose of connecting receiver to the internet. We demonstrate the PTE and propose new interactive service.

Content ID is a global unique identifier for the purpose of protecting copyrights of contents like video, images, music etc. Content ID is proposed and promoted to a standard by the Content ID Forum (cIDf). We have developed the network-based editing method that video editing is surely executed by utilizing the Content ID. The method is that an original time code from an original video material is combined with the Content ID and used in remote editing. An EDL by the original time code is fed to an editing studio for high quality editing.

We have studied a client/server system for editing TV programs via a computer network. Clients' requests for transfer are measured, and modeling is done to estimate the traffic for which to occur on the network. The probability density functions of the periods of data transfer activity and inactivity for these models are approximated by a sum of exponential functions. We discuss the transfer method which TCP and UDP are switched adaptively to deal with these traffic efficiently. The amount of the network traffic at a single bottleneck model is calculated by using TCP, UDP and the above method. The proposed transfer method shows that it is excellent in comparison with the other methods.

In this paper, we assume a high-quality video transmission on mobile IP networks. And we analyze the performance of SVFTP protocol under an error-prone environment, and show that some experiments. First, we calculate the equation which shows throughput of SVFTP, and prove that. Then we compare SVFTP with large window size in TCP, and show the advantage.

The authors have proposed a framerate optimization technique for image sequences which can maximize users' subjective evaluation. That method, however, can be applied to sequences comprising only a single scene, which makes this technique unable to be applied to a real image sequences including multiple scenes. This paper, thus, modifies the technique so that it is applicable to real image and evaluate its effectiveness through subjective assesment test.
