Though microstrip antennas have advantages of small, light weight and low profile, it has a narrow frequency performance. In this paper, a novel frequency tunable antenna is proposed to improve the frequency performance. This antenna is loaded with variable capacitors on the fed element. The resonant frequency can be controlled by the capacitance of the varactor diode. The characteristics of this antenna are calculated by FDTD method and are also verified experimentally.

This paper is concerned with a theoretical discussion on the simplification of analyses of the electromagnetic diffraction by an edge or a wedge and their application to multi-wedges diffraction. The final goal of this paper is to effectively estimate the propagation characteristics in urban areas especially focusing on polarization conversion. First, starting from, the rigorous solution to the plane wave diffraction by a conducting half plane, we derive an approximate solution for the wedge diffraction of an incident spherical wave by using the source and image coefficients. Next, we propose on approximation for the multi-edges diffraction; we include the principal part of the diffraction but ignore the higher order of multiple diffractions assuming that the latter effect on propagation is small compared with the former. Numerical results are shown for statistics of diffraction phenomena.

The digital terrestrial broadcasting full-services will be started at the end of this year. Utilizing the latest digital technology, this enables to bring veryattractive content including Data broadcast and EPG (Electronic Program Guide). For the stable transmission of the digital broadcasting content, the system engineers of master control room in broadcasting station play the most important role. With combination e-learning technology and human-based training methods, we at NHK Tokyo have been working on fostering their new talent regarding various digital broadcast system engineering technology. In this paper, we summarize our fostering model for the system engineers in the master control room. We also describe an outline of e-learning system prototype.

This paper describes a new method to produce the sequences with special video effects, which emphasize the impression of main portion of images. The special effects are produced so that the regions except for the main portion are blurred while the resolution of the main portion is unchanged. First, it is shown that the sequences mentioned above can be obtained easily by utilizing the motion vectors and temporal filter. This resolves some problems of the conventional methods. Secondly, the method to blur the region for secondary portion with the same motion as the main portion is proposed.
