NHK is conducting research on the next generation of digital terrestrial broadcasting to enable large-volume content such as 8K Super Hi-Vision. LDPC codes have been studied as forward error collection (FEC). The error correction capability of LDPC code can be improved by increasing the code length. However, it would be difficult to set the number of data bits in an OFDM frame to an integer multiple of the long code length. Then, even if OFDM frame synchronization is acquired in the receiver, the beginning of LDPC code cannot be detected. So we propose FEC pointer to inform the decoding position to the receiver. This paper describes the computer simulation results of the FEC pointer transmission.

With the spread of communication networks using IP (Internet Protocol), technical development and standardization of transmitting uncompressed or compressed video signals in IP packets is performed. In an IP transmission, network switch equipment, which has been placed in the transmission path, may be successively discards the input packet (burst loss). When a transmission packet loss is occurred, block noise appears on the video signal to be recovered at the receiver side, so that stable video transmission becomes difficult. Therefore, FEC (Forward Error Correction) method to restore the lost packets is effective. In this paper, we, propose the new FEC method to improve the burst loss resistance compared to the conventional method, which restore the lost packet using the exclusive OR operation. We also report about our simulation results of the new FEC performance.

Let us assume that space division multiplexing (SDM) signal without precoding is transmitted at a base station (BS) with a number of antennas to mobile stations (MSs) with fewer antennas. It will be intractable for a MS to decode the SDM signal by linear space filtering in the case of less degrees of freedom at the MS. Collaborative interference cancellation (CIC) can be applied to decode the SDM signal with the enhancement of degrees of freedom at the MS by sharing other SDM signals received at the surrounding MSs with higher frequency band wireless communications. Short slot reservation time division multiple access (SSR-TDMA) with the function of carrier sense helps it to gain the medium access control (MAC) efficiency at the higher frequency band. In this manuscript, we investigate the effect of frame aggregation and channel bonding incorporated into the SSR-TDMA protocol and show the enhancement of the MAC efficiency.

The authors have been studying a single-carrier transmission with frequency domain equalization (SC-FDE) for millimeter-wave band wireless cameras, where compact size and low power consumption are required. The wideband transmission system using SC-FDE method for the expansion of the transmission capacity was studied. Then the deterioration through a millimeter-wave power amplifier and the transmission performance in AWGN and multi-path channels were simulated. As a result, compared with Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), it is showed that the transmission margin in the link budget with 16-Amplitude Phase Shift Keying SC-FDE system can be improved by about 5dB.

In mmWave communications, a frame loss rate increases and thus throughput is decreased sharply when pedestrians block line-of-sight paths. Such serious human blockage does not occur in microwave communications. In general, reactive communication control is conducted based on measured communication quality. In contrast to this, to solve the problem, we have proposed an RGB and depth (RGB-D) camera based millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication environment prediction and a proactive communication control system using the prediction results. By using the RGB-D camera, we can predict a change of mmWave environment such as human blockage easily since the cameras can detect obstacles and their mobility. In this paper, the framework and the prototype implementations of the RGB-D camera based human blockage prediction and proactive communication control schemes are introduced.

In this paper, we discuss optical cammera communication systems using digital signage, which is composed of a liquid crystal display (LCD). The digital signage, which is used as a transmitter, displays advertisement contents as visual information. The optical camera communication system using digital signage has to transmit data information not to obstruct the visual information. In this paper, we propose blue color difference modulation for the optical camera communication system using digital signage. We clarify the performance of the proposed system by data transmission experiments.
