High density recording performance and thermal stability for super-fine particulate Ba-ferrite media were discussed. It was clarified that media made from smaller magnetic particles are effective for higher output in high density region. For smaller magnetic particle size, however, magnetization tends to be thermally unstable. Inter-particle interaction seems to affect thermal stability. In this paper, excellent recording capability for small particle media will first be discussed, then inter-particle interaction through ΔM, and thermal stability, in terms of magnetization time decay, will be discussed. Street-Woolley method and waiting time method are compared in estimating the activation volume for super-fine particulate media.
