To further increase recording density of disk storage drives, thermally-assisted magnetic recording can solve the fundametal issues of thermal fluctuation and is regarded as the keytechnology for achieving recording density of more than 1 Tb/in^2. In this technology, it is suggested that there is critical issues for the ultra-thin liquid lubricant films on the disk surfaces. Because they are heated to high temperature with laser beams. In this study, we focused on the thermal stability of the two lubricant film materials in thermally-assisted magnetic recording. In other words, the behavior of lubricant film under the laser heating was investigated and discussed experimentally. As a result, it was found that the effects of lubricant film thickness as well as the laser irradiation conditions on the lubricant film depletion were clarified. We also considered that the depletion mechanisms of lubricant film compared with the temperature programmed desorption spectroscopy (TPD) results.

We investigated perpendicular exchange bias of Pt/Co/α-Cr_2O_3(0001) thin films which were fabricated by means of DC magnetron sputtering method. The Pt/Co bilayer which was deposited on α-Cr_2O_3(0001) layer has perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) and perpendicular exchange bias (PEB). Although PEB is not observed at RT, it appears suddenly at a given temperature, and it had a unique temperature dependence. Unidirectional magnetic anisotropy energy, J_K of about 0.29 erg/cm^2 is obtained. The mechanism of suddenly appearance of J_K is discussed on the basis of Meiklejohn and Bean's exchange anisotropy model.

Electric-field control of magnetization reversal has been attracting a lot of attention as a novel low-power writing technique for future spintronic devices. In this paper, we introduce our recent experimental trial of electric-field control of magnetic anisotropy in an epitaxial ultrathin ferromagnetic metal film.

A steady magnetization precession induced by spin-torque was studied in magnetic tunnel junctions with an Fe-rich CoFeB free layer under a perpendicular magnetic field. The Fe-rich CoFeB free layer exhibits a low critical current (I_c) for spin-torque induced switching. The low value of I_c for the Fe-rich CoFeB free layer enables us to observe the spin-torque induced rf oscillation even at a low dc bias current (I_<dc>). The oscillation frequency increased with increasing I_<dc>, indicating the out-of-plane precessional mode. Owing to the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in the Fe-rich CoFeB free layer, the large relative angle between the free and pinned layers can be achieved under the perpendicular magnetic field. Due to this effect and out-of-plane precession of the magnetization, we could observe the large rf output power as high as 175nW.

This paper describes the association based method for searching digital television program using genre information. In this paper, we firstly define the method to measure the relevance among different genres. And, using the genre relevance, the method expands the search range and narrows the range using a combination of genres. Thus the method reduces the number of operation to finish searching the program which user dimly remembers.

In the product development, we must use the limited H/W resource efficiently. If we can understand the timing of the resource occupation accurately in each function, we can resolve resource shortage problem in the design stage. However, the allotment of the resource is very hard and causes trouble by the design error when we develop the large-scale S/W. Moreover, we cannot resolve resource shortage problem in the design stage beforehand when we use the resource of the external instrument. In addition, the method of evading resource shortage in the design stage has the problem of weakening the merit of S/W sharing. Therefore, we report on the method for the dynamic resource conflict resolution, and explain the simulation of the resource conflict resolution.

Intelligent Index System (IIS) has been developed which extracts features of the camera work and audiovisual signal in shooting, and generate scene feature metadata indices in real-time. We applied IIS to the tagging of highlight scenes and the generation of playlists for highlight playback in HD camcorders. A basic time span for each index is setup to about the value of psychological present through user assessment. Then, for the first time, users become to enjoy watching highlight readily, and all they have to do is to shoot. Accordingly, combined with the personal face recognition, the highlight playback of assigned person by user has been commoditized.

A review of BD-base recordable multi-layer technology in TDK is reported. A design principle, recording materials, recording mechanism will be reported. Furthermore, a proposal of recording material and structure design will be made to simplify the media structure. By use of Bi-Ge-O as a recording material, a sufficient recording sensitivity was obtained with extremely high transmittance of 95%, and a feasibility of 16-layer with the capacity of 512GB was obtained. By adopting a new material design, a simple structure was realized.

We propose newly developed roll-type optical memory (RoCAM). RoCAM is one of the multilayered memories and it has cylinder shape. RoCAM is composed of a recording and transparent layers wound onto a shaft. Five advantageous features of RoCAM are 1) easy fabrication of media, 2) easy implementation of groove structures in RoCAM, 3) parallel recording and reading, 4) rotation stability and 5) constant linear velocity. In this paper, we report advantageous features and one-dimensional parallel signal readout of of RoCAM.

We have developed a dual-layer rewritable optical disk with high-index (n=1.8) cover and separation layers and first demonstrated near-field recording/reading for both L0 and L1 layers with single SIL (Solid Immersion Lens) optical head. The surface smoothness of the disk and the stability of a gap servo were improved by applying a new forming process of the high-index cover layer of the disk. A beam expander composed of three lenses enabled focusing both L0 and L1 recording layers without exchanging SIL head. The recording characteristics at the capacity of 150GB were confirmed.

We proposed a novel method for interlayer crosstalk reduction. This method uses optical device which consists of two segmented wave plates and a polarizes. Inserting a device in front of a detector, this method can keep the pickup size compact. This device is applicable to both 1 beam and 3 beam systems with astigmatic aberration focusing method. The transmissivity dependence on the device position in a focused beam was measured. The experimental result showed good agreement with the simulation. From the experimental results, total stray light in a quadruple layer disc whose minimum layer spacing is 8μm is expected to be reduced to about 2% of signal light.
