Transmitting the OFDM signal through CATV systems is one of the realistic ways to cope with the digital terrestrial television broadcasting. Transmission test of OFDM signal is done in a CATV test facility. Error vector of OFDM's each carrier, frequency deviations of CTB and CSO, and amplitude distribution of CTB and CSO are measured.

A novel method of time-division multiplexing MPEG-TSs in cable TV facilities is proposed in order to re-transmit the digital terrestrial broadcasting services and the digital satellite broadcasting services efficiently. To handle multiple MPEG-TSs, a frame structure is introduced, and the control data are encoded into the frame header, whose format is similar to a TS packet. Because the multiplexing method is independent of the channel coding and modulation, it can be combined with the cable transmission schemes already authorized, such as ITU-T J.83.

System configuration of multiple MPEG-Transport Streams transmission with one digital carrier for cable distribution is presented. In Japan, Broadcasts via Satellite is planning to go digital from the year of 2000. Cable TV subscribers should be able to enjoy the wide variety of digital services as well as direct-to-home reception viewers. We have conducted two kinds of trials for BS digital relay service on cable TV network. Using transport streams multiplexing frame, plural Transport Streams can be encapsulated and carried with single conventional 64QAM modem for 6MHz channel spacing. Also, we demonstrate the newly developed 12MHz bandwidth 64QAM modem to relay the whole digital signals over one BS transponder.

We propose a transmission method of BS digital signals for cable television systems. By this transmission method called 'PSK method', BS digital signals received by BS antenna are down-converted to a frequency that can be transmitted over the cable television system by the BS digital head end to make transmission, and then they are upconverted to a former frequency by a home terminal of each subscriber. As the results of transmission experiments via an actual cable television system, PSK method had good transmission characteristics, so it is evident that PSK method can be applied to transmit BS digital signals over the cable television systems.

The Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting(DTTB)will start in 2000 in Japan. In the DTTB, the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex(OFDM)is used. The experiment modem systems based on the draft standard for DTTB in Japan were developed. On the other hand, the companies of measurement instruments are not able to commercialize a new measurement system for Japanese DTTB, because the specification of Japanese DSB(Digital Sound Broadcasting)standard is under discussion. We have made a programmable system of measurement and analysis using a real-time spectrum analyzer and a CPU server machine. In this paper the outline of the measurement and analytic systems for the digital broadcasting is mentioned, and some examples applied for the OFDM are also described.

This paper introduces a compact digital transmitter for SNG specialized to portable operation. This system has several features. (1)This system requires only 0.75m diameter of the parabola antenna. (2)We have adopted 40 watt(W) HPA in order to lighten its weight; to make it small; to reduce the consumption of the electric power. (3)This system adopted MOK-QPSK digital modulation for the purpose of transmission in the saturated region of the power amplification.
