The Ultra Wide Band (UWB) system has recently been applied to various fields because the system has a characteristics such as low radiated power, high bit rate. The UWB system is studied to be utilized such as home network, Wireless Universal Serial Bus (WUSB) and etc. Furthermore, it has been expected to be used near the human body in the standardization of the Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) system. In this paper, a UWB antenna, which operates at 7.25 to 10.25GHz and is able to be worn as a wristwatch, is proposed. This band is approved to be used as UWB communication in Japan. The position of the antenna on an arm changes by condition. Therefore, input impedance and radiation pattern, when the antenna is worn various position, are investigated by numerical simulation. From these results, although the input impedance of the antenna is difference by wearing position, it is confirmed that the propagation to the tip of an arm is advantage than the back direction at each frequency.

Recently, the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) systems have become very popular and widely used in various fields such as logistics management and automatic object identification, etc. Several frequency bands have been assigned to the RFID applications, such as 135kHz, 13.56, 433, 868 (Europe), 915 (USA), 965 (Asia) MHz, 2.45 and 5.8GHz. In this research, the symmetrical dipole antenna is designed on the surface of dielectric substrate with L type slit which can generate a dual-band operations to suitable for use in 965MHz and 2.45GHz RFID systems. Furthermore, the mechanism of the proposed antenna is confirmed by finite element method. The current distribution, S_<11> and radiation pattern are also shown in this paper.

Recently, UWB systems have been attracted as a wireless communication system which makes large capacity and high-speed wireless communications possible. In antennas for UWB systems, light weight and thin shape are required for the structure. Moreover, the characteristics which are broadband and independent radiation pattern for all frequencies are also required for the performance of antenna. The broadband planar antennas with a line element, an offset feeding point from center of a conducting ground plane and an elliptical element have been studied. In this paper, in order to improve characteristics of radiation pattern, truncating the elliptical element of the broadband planar antenna with parasitic elements near ground conductor instead of the line element is proposed. Characteristics of return loss and radiation patterns are analyzed by the FDTD method. From the results, it is found that truncating an elliptical element and locating parasitic elements near ground conductor is effective for improvement of the radiation patterns, and the miniaturization is also achieved.

Mobile communication technologies such as the cellular phone and the television receiver have been developed rapidly. It is desired that the improvement of the deterioration of received signal quality, namely fading phenomenon in the mobile communications. Authors have proposed a single-feed planar antenna which is composed of the planar monopole antenna and the planar slot antenna, and analyzed the characteristics of it by using FDTD method. In this paper, the results of measurement of proposed antenna and the comparison with the results of calculation are described.

In case of the ISDB-T, SFN (Single Frequency Network) is introduced for efficient frequency use. In SFN environment, relay stations are keeping high precision and stability of carrier wave frequency so as not to interfere each broadcasting waves. And, we proposed a new phase fluctuation measurement method which can measure the frequency of each relay station's wave even in SFN environment by using the delay profiles. In this paper, we describe measurement results of the relative positioning measured by the proposed method.

When a solar plane is used for SPF (Stratospheric Platform), it has to perform a loop maneuver, so it is expected that 200Hz of Doppler shift will be caused. OFDM, a transmitting method in use for DTTB, is vulnerable to a delayed wave whose frequency is changed. So when the same frequency is shared by SPF and a terrestrial broadcasting, it is expected that ICI (Inter-Carrier Interference) will occur and it will cause a large poor reception area. In this paper, we propose an ICI canceling method, and describe the results of the simulation about the effectiveness of the method.

OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is used for DTTB (Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting). It is not affected by delayed waves easily, so SFN (Single Frequency Network) is possible. However, the signal quality cannot be measured accurately with C/N (Carrier to Noise Ratio) or MER (Modulation Error Ratio) in SFN area because of delayed waves. In this paper, we propose a new evaluation method with "Margin" and "Environmental Degradation Index".

In video coding, H.264 (MPEG-4AVC) standard method are widely used as a high performance coding. In this, high PSNR value can be got by using rate distortion optimization. On the other hand, the subjective picture quality became important. However, it is difficult to consider the subjective picture quality because of 4x4 DCT which is instead of 8x8 DCT in MPEG-2 To realize the control of picture quality, we propose the method which use the pre and post processing. The picture before coding is filtered on human perceptual characteristics. Then, they are coded using rate distortion optimization. Finally, the decoded picture is filtered by the post-filter which has reverse characteristics to pre-filter. Further, we propose the adaptive control of the filter strength based on block activity. The proposed methods are evaluated by using JM13 CODEC. As results of them, the advantage of the subjective picture quality is recognized.

In a picture coding, DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) and the block based motion compensation cause the degradations called block artifact and mosquito noise in the reconstructed pictures. These artifacts can be reduced by post-processing if the block position in the picture is determined. However, there are many kinds of picture format in actual video system. The picture in the display may be already converted from the other formats. In such case, the post-processing is difficult to do, because the block position of the original picture is not determined. To respond this, we propose the block position determination method by using the reported estimation method for block artifact level. In this, pixel continuities are checked. We test the proposed method by using the pictures which were converted from the other formats. As results of examination, the block position is determined at the pictures with un-noticeable degradation, such as the Q_scale equal to 3.
