In this report, the papers on the phosphors presented in The Fifth International Conference on the Science and Technology of Display Phosphors are summarized. Total of 93 papers were presented, and these are consisted of 41 papers on phosphors including PDP, 48 papers on inorganic and organic EL and 4 papers on photonics. The papers on the phosphors coated with ITO and/or SiO2 aimed at the use of CRT phosphors to FED were presented. The papers on the deterioration mechanism of BAM phosphors during irradiation by ultraviolet and on the development of new phosphors for PDP were also presented.

Since 1993, Color Imaging Conference has been held focusing on color science, systems, and applications, where color imaging specialists enjoy to meet together and discuss the state-of-the-art color theories and technologies. This time, 33 oral and 27 poster papers were accepted and presented with single-track format for the three days sessions gathering about 250 attendees. Starting from first keynote by Dr.J.MaCann, 5 papers on Image Capture, 3 papers on Scene Perception, and 5 papers on Color Management were discussed. While spectral imaging such as multi-band image capture, and spectral reconstruction of object colors will be the recent topics, the research interests are now addressed to approach to the human vision system by considering color appearance model or color constancy aspects.

This paper describes the specifications and usage of standard RGB color spaces promoted today by standard bodies and/or the imaging industry. As in the past, most of the new standard RGB color spaces were developed for specific imaging workflow and applications. They are used as interchange spaces to communicate color and/or as working spaces in imaging applications. Standard color spaces can facilitate color communication : if an image is in 'knownRGB, ' the user, application, and/or device can unambiguously understand the color of the image, and further color manage from there if necessary. When applied correctly, a standard RGB space can minimize color space conversions in an imaging workflow, improve image reproducibility, and facilitate accountability. The digital image color workflow is examined, with emphasis on when an RGB color space is appropriate, and when to apply color management by profile. An RGB space is "standard" because either it is defined in an official standards document (a de jure standard) or it is supported by commonly used tools (a de facto standard). Examples of standard RGB color spaces are ISO RGB, sRGB, ROMM RGB, Adobe RGB 98, Apple RGB, and video RGB spaces (NTSC, EBU, ITU-R BT.709). As there is no one RGB color space that is suitable for all imaging needs, factors to consider when choosing an RGB color space are discussed.

The aim of this paper is to give an overview of statistical, spatial and cognitive image characteristics which could influence the performance of gamut mapping algorithms. In addition to reviewing these characteristics, a general method for evaluating their importance in the above context is given whereby this method is based on the creation of sets of images which either share or differ in terms of given characteristics in known ways. The psychophysical evaluation of the reproductions of such image sets can then yield information about their relative impact on the performance of the gamut mapping algorithms used. Having such information would be of great benefit when trying to improve the performance of colour reproduction systems in general and gamut mapping in particular.
