After the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Provisional Broadcasters for disaster have been launched in the affected areas per Broadcast Act Article 3-5. On the year end of 2011, AMAYA of Onagawa Saigai FM noted the thesis written by Ito, who experienced designing of automation system. AMAYA contacted Ito via SNS to know if there are Small Scale Automations applicable to broadcasting station of disaster. Although Ito is not currently working at the play-out department, he is still studying the development of Small Scale and General Play-out Automations for a private organization. Taking a social responsibility as a professional broadcasting engineer, Ito offered the Automation, MaitouAPC, at free of charge for the purpose of provisional broadcasting for disaster, and was installed.

The wireless microphone is used for television and radio program productions, concerts, stage dramas, and so on. The regulation of SAR for the wireless microphone is currently discussed; however, few studies have been performed concerning the SAR on the human body due to the wireless microphone. We designed a helical antenna with a metallic case as a handheld type of wireless microphones and calculated the SAR with a numerical model of the human body. From the results, we found that the peak of 10g average SAR on human body is lower than 0.2 [W/kg] when the output power of the antenna is 50mW.

The 'flip-board' is popular item in TV program. Almost all 'flip-board' is made by paper. But these are dust after using TV show. It's waste. So, we tried to replace its to digital one with reasonable tools. The 'traditional flip-board' by paper is very useful especially at outside location, because it is very light and easy to write by pen. But, the new 'digital-flip-board' can get data from CG production by interne easily and re-use very well. These potential changes the workflow of using 'flip-board' at out-side location. Now these are useful tools in many situations.

A high-sensitivity electron multiplying charge coupled device (EM-CCD) HD camera was developed for shooting night views of the earth and various natural phenomena at the cosmic shore from the International Space Station (ISS). The camera was investigated, compared with other types of high-sensitivity cameras, and applied to space environmental testing. An auto gain and frame-rate control system was also developed for the camera for astronauts to operate it easily. In addition, an overview of live broadcasting from the ISS by using this camera was also reviewed.

This paper is written about the development of LED lighting equipment that produces the same amount of light as conventional halogen lights but uses only one fifth as much electricity. In addition to its long lifetime of 20,000 hours, this lighting equipment also satisfies other studio lighting requirements such as the ability to produce soft natural light with a high Color Rendering Index (CRI), and the absence of flicker when images are captured on camera. The equipment has been in use at studios in NHK since November 2010.

As a usual circuit control function is included in a main lighting control panel, there is no solution to continue producing TV program, in case that a main lighting panel has critical problems. We developed 'circuit control panel' that has circuit allocation control function and memory for allocation data. Even if we have serious problems with main control panel, we will be able to continue producing TV program by using the circuit control unit with ready-made lighting control panels. We introduced Ethernet lighting network. We can control lighting scene very quickly everywhere in a studio by tablet PC or iPad. It is very helpful for us to set up lighting plans, especially for drama.

NHK is conducting research on the next generation of digital terrestrial broadcasting to enable large-volume content services such as Super Hi-Vision. In dual polarized MIMO transmission, we applied LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) code to FEC (Forward Error Correct) and previously reported a multi-dimensional interleaving scheme that reduces deterioration caused by the difference of channel responses of two polarizations. We developed the decoding algorism of LDPC code using channel responses of dual polarized MIMO transmission for the calculation of LLR (Log Likelihood Ratio) iteratively, and this paper reports the result of computer simulation.
