Propagation over terrestrial broadcasting tends to receive multipath wave from buildings or mountains. Therefore, ISDB-T adopts OFDM with guard interval . However, a high power multipath is one of the factor of causing poor reception. We are conducting research on digital terrestrial broadcasting to enable large-volume content such as Super High-Vision, and we are considering to adopt LDPC code to the forward error correction. Evaluating the performance of forward error correction not only in AWGN environment but also in multipath environment is important for terrestrial broadcasting. In this paper, we've evaluated the transmission performance of convolutional coded OFDM and LDPC coded OFDM by computer simulation using same signal structure and channel propagation . We confirmed that LDPC code can improve the transmission performance over multipath environment.

With the spread of communication networks using IP (Internet Protocol), technical development and standardization of transmitting uncompressed or compressed video signals in IP packets are performed. In a video over IP transmission, FEC (Forward Error Correction) method to restore the lost packets is effective. We have proposed a new FEC method with erasure code to improve the burst loss tolerance compared to the conventional method, which restore the lost packet using exclusive OR operations. In this paper, we report about performance comparison results between the proposed FEC method and an interleaving FEC method. As a result, we will reveal that burst loss tolerance of the proposed FEC method can be improved to about two times compare to that of the interleaving FEC method. And we will also reveal that error correction processing time of the proposed FEC method can be reduced to about 67% compared to that of the interleaving FEC method.

A reception electric field strength decreases by the change of the reception height pattern by radiowave propagation even if someone receive a digital terrestrial airwave with the UHF antenna of the single basis high ideally, and image quality may deteriorate. Therefore we devised the stack antenna to constitute by the perpendicular separation and phase shifting composition corresponding to the height pattern characteristics, and to stabilize a reception electric field strength. We investigated it with 10 several places and confirmed the effectiveness of the stack antenna which we devised until now.

A 700MHz-band OFDM-FPU, that is a kind of wires link, has been used for road-race broadcasting. At present, migration to a higher band such as 1.2GHz and 2.3GHz is a period of transition. The higher transition frequency is, the larger transmission loss become. MIMO and Diversity are key issue for stable transmission. In this report, New diversity system which name is “antenna sharing diversity system” is developed. The system reduce by half the number of antenna by sharing IF signals in the FPU receive control systems

We constructed a live-program-production system for 8K with high dynamic range (HDR) using Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) format which will be used for 4K and 8K broadcasting. The system was composed of 8K HDR cameras applied an HLG opto-electronic transfer function (OETF), an 8K HDR displays applied an HLG electro-optical transfer function (EOTF), and pieces of existing equipment for 8K program production including a video switcher, a recorder, and a character super-imposer. We used the system to experimentally produce live programs including indoor and outdoor scenes with a person. The results indicate the effectiveness of 8K HDR and the feasibility of implementing an HLG-based HDR live-program-production system without difficulties.

High dynamic range (HDR) broadcast is capable from the beginning of the 8K test broadcast in August 2016, and NHK is aiming to start the HDR broadcast using Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) system. However, most existing 8K cameras were developed prior to the establishment of the HLG standard and they met only to the conventional standard dynamic range (SDR) system. In this paper, we describe the method of applying the HLG system to existing 8K cameras by adding HLG opto-electronic transfer function (OETF) tables to the existing gamma correction circuit. We also show the imaging properties and operation procedures of 8K HDR cameras.

NHK will conduct the test satellite broadcasting of 8K/4K Super Hi-Vision (SHV) video on August 1, 2016. To enable broadcasting, we developed and deployed various production equipment to create characteristic 8K content. Further, we are just in the term of operational training of the world's first SHV play-out and transmission facilities, we developed. In this talk, we discuss the details and features of the 8K SHV video format, and we provide details about the production equipment (cameras, recorders, and outside broadcasting vans), play-out, transmission system, and receiver. In addition, an example of content production and public viewing for the Rio Olympics on August 5 are provided. Finally, we explain the deployment of 8K/4K SHV for non-broadcasting applications and the roadmap for practical satellite broadcasting in 2018.

Reception quality of Full-segment service is deteriorated by the multipath fading channel. The antenna diversity is one of the improvement techniques to solve the multipath fading problem. However, it is difficult to install multiple antennas in a small mobile terminal. Then, cooperative reception scheme using multiple terminals for digital television broadcasting Full-segment service has been proposed. However, carrier choice technique in cooperative reception of Full-segment service using cooperative reception has not been evaluated. In this paper, carrier choice technique in cooperative reception is proposed. In the evaluation of carrier choice each the location probability in the area that we assumed can be also improved by the proposed carrier choice technique in the Full-segment service.

Network MIMO-OFDM can be seen as a promising technique for achieving high speed and high capacity transmission because the problemsof inter-cell interference (ICI) and multipathfading caneffectively be solved. However, ISI due to TDOA causes the signifcant degradation in the transmission performance with increase in cell radius. In this report, we propose the ISI suppression scheme which applies the periodic signals to the ISI-affected user. The proposed approach is inspired by the useful properties that a certain ISI-affected user does not interfere at all with the other users. Moreover, in the proposed scheme, the appropriate transmission mode is chosen between the traditional non-periodic and periodic signals based on the theoretical coded BER. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated in comparison with the traditional non-periodic transmission by means of computer simulations.

Recently,60 GHz millimeter wave(mm-Wave)systems have been extensively studied. In standards, like IEEE 208.11ad, there are 4 channels with total 9 GHz bandwidth in 60 GHz band, and each channel can provide maximally over than 6 Gbps data rate. For compensating the high propagation loss of mm-Wave,analogue beamforming(BF)in RF band is also proposed. Here, we are aiming at the further improvement of mm-Wave channels with multi-user multiple-input and multiple-output (MU-MIMO) spatial multiplexing. In this report, we evaluate user scheduling algorithms with the analogue BF using a small conference room channel model and 3-sector access point. And a proportionally fair MU-MIMO user scheduling method is proposed.

The authors have been developing an UHDTV-FPU (Field Pick-up Unit) which is a 42 GHz band wireless transmission system for UHDTV (Ultra High-Definition Television) program contribution. High-capacity transmission required for UHDTV FPUs is achieved by using a dual polarized MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) - OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system and wide bandwidth of 42 GHz band. This paper describes the development of the wideband 2×2 MIMO-OFDM modulator and demodulator for 42 GHz band FPU.

When we use a full dimension-multiple input multiple output (FD-MIMO), it is expected to realize multi-user MIMO effectively, because it is able to control beams in azimuth and elevation angles. It means that we can separate users in depth or horizontal direction. In this report, we evaluate SINR performance ofa FD-MIMO systemfordivided areas in various transmit array arrangements by computer simulations assuming an indoor environment.

Overloaded MIMO provides a user with higher communication link by forming more spatial multiplexing streams than the number of receive antennas. Receivers employing virtual channels are known to achieve high transmission performance in such overloaded MIMO systems. This paper proposes a novel overloaded MIMO receiver employing virtual channels with adaptive extended matrix selection, which can reduce the complexity, while keeping the high transmission performance. A new method to generate a set of extended matrices is proposed for the receiver, which enables to achieve such performance. The performance is confirmed by computer simulation.
