CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS FREE ACCESSThe main object of assistive devices for people with disabilities is to decrease the barriers in his/her activities and to increase their daily activities. Some of these assistive devices, in real situations, can not provide full of the functions that the designers intended. In this paper we focus matching between user's intention and the functions of devices. The basic idea of our study is ; there exists large individual differences among target users, and the relation between a user and a device is dynamically changes due to various environmental factors including carers. CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS FREE ACCESSThe purpose of this study is to develop a communication aid for deaf-blind people to assist their "Finger Braille" communication. The method to present "Finger Braille" by using vibration has been investigated to determine optimum conditions. The communication between the person without disable and deaf-blind person under this conditions has been examined. Effective April, 2000, public care insurance will become available, enabling each citizen to decide who administers his or her care service. However, most people have limited knowledge of home care, making planning difficult. In this paper, we present a home care service advisory system. CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS FREE ACCESSMultimedia applications are now used in a wide variety of fields such as medical treatment and social welfare. This paper proposes a communication tool for handicapped or bedridden patients who cannot use a keyboard. This tool enables a person to write and send E-mail using head swing operation based on our previously proposed object-tracking method. In addition, to simplify the correction of the camera angle, we introduce an effective camera calibration procedure that effectively utilizes the object-tracking method. CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS FREE ACCESSThis paper proposes a haptization system that allows the blind to touch untouchable objects. A stereo vision system is adopted to get the range data that represent the untouchable objects. A tension based force display, that is a point contact type, is used to present the shape to the blind. The method that transforms range data into smooth surface is described. The communication between the stereo vision system and the force display is discussed to realize real-time touch.
