We developed a new transmission system with multiple carriers for a high-speed MPEG-2 TS signal over cable TV networks. A 120 Mbps MPEG-2 TS signal is divided into some groups, which are transmitted using individual carriers and recomposed in a receiver. The system utilizes the multiplex frame header defined in ITU-T Rec. J. 183 to synchronize these groups with each other. This system can absorb the delay difference between the groups up to 1.36 ms, which corresponds to the difference of more than 270 km in the transmission distance.

Degradation of the quality of a digital television broadcast wave generates a breakdown pixel in a receiving picture. We have developed the system which observes the receiving margin of a digital-broadcasting wave automatically easily by the technique of observing the rate of generating time of a breakdown, where a degradation factor is artificially added to the digital-broadcasting wave which received. This system can evaluate the quality of a digital-broadcasting wave, without changing the contents of broadcasting, since a special signal is not needed.

In Japan, a lot of discussions are made about the digital terrestrial TV services that will start from Dec. 2003. The mobile / portable TV service with hierarchical transmission is regarded as one of the promising one, because it will be able to expand TV viewing opportunity not only in home but also in commuter trains, cars and so on. This paper describes the analysis of mobile / / portable TV viewing, it's services requirements and some service examples such as a video download and a target announcement. And coverage assessment of an indoor gap filler field transmission is also mentioned.

As a part of information barrier-free promotion, Nippon Television Network Corporation developed the real-time closed caption broadcasting system by connecting with stenographic word processing company. We developed various mechanisms such as automatic caption speed control mechanism, a quasi-scroll mechanism, and automatic caption cut mechanism in CM insertion period. By those mechanisms, this system became a very practical system. We started the first real-time closed caption broadcast in Japan in the news program "News Dash" from August 27, 2001 by using this system.

In the era of "High-vision Digital", an idea of outputting TV program content to various media such as data broadcasting, internet and mobile have been of interest to many broadcasters. We at NHK have been challenging to create an interactive Web3D content in which very precise three dimensional computer graphics data of High-vision were transformed to an internet media. In this paper, we outline our current study in development of the effective Web3D content production method utilizing the High-vision three dimensional computer graphics data.

Site attenuation(SA) or normalized SA(NSA) is a parameter that estimates quality of an open site which is a field for measuring unnecessary leakage electromagnetic waves from electric or electronic apparatuses. SA or NSA is defined the propagation loss from a source point to an observation one over an infinite conducting ground plane. But, an open site in practice is constructed with a finite ground plane on the flat earth. In this paper, we discuss the effects of a finite ground plane and the earth around the plane on NSA. The analysis employed in this paper is performed by Geometrical Theory of Diffraction(GTD or UTD). Results of numerical calculation show that the effect of the size of a ground plane on the earth provided by CISPR (√<3>d×2d; d is a distance between a source antenna and a receive one) is small.

Small size antennas with the circular polarization are required for ITS antenna of mobile communication. We developed a circularly polarized modified transmission line antenna(MTLA) using closed-spaced parasitic spiral element for a mobile communication. The properties of this antenna regarding to the axial ratio ,gain and radiation pattern are analyzed by means of the moment method. Various type of spiral element length are analyzed. As the results, we obtain that the axial ratio(≦3) is 20% and the gain is about 6dB. Moreover, it is concluded that the MTLA with a spiral element provides wide-band and dual-mode(vertical, circular polarization) mobile communication antenna.

A gain of a single microstrip antenna increases by stacking a parasitic element at a distance of 0.5 λ above a fed element. Further a stacked microstrip array antenna has a high gain and high efficiency. In this paper, to make clear how the gain increases, we analyze directivity of two element microstrip array antenna with parasitic elements using FDTD method.

This paper proposes a tunable filter using the coplanar waveguide resonator which is integrated with active devices. This newly developed structure is very suitable for loading active devices such as varactor diodes. The characteristic of the CPW resonator filter without devices is firstly shown, which is followed by the characteristic of the CPW resonator filter with devices.
