This paper is concerned with an application of ray tracing method (RTM) to electromagnetic wave reflection and transmission at a dielectric slab or wedge, which is closely related to the reflection or transmission at the walls of a Japanese house. The geometry of the slab and wedge is 2D, but the incident wave is assumed to be 3D, that is, the incidence is oblique with arbitrary polarization. Numerical examples are given for some rays and field distributions, especially focussing on the mechanism of polarization conversion.

Site attenuation (SA) or normalized SA (NSA) is a parameter that estimates quality of an open site which is a field for measuring unnecessary leakage electromagnetic waves from electric or electronic apparatuses. Generally, NSA is denned the propagation loss between a transmitting antenna and a receiving one over an infinite conducting ground plane. But, an open site in practice is constructed with a finite ground plane on the flat earth. In this paper, the value of NSA over the finite ground plane considering the condition of the peripheral earth (drying earth and damp earth) is compared the one over an infinite ground plane. The result shows that the drying earth affects the value of NSA more than damp earth.

There is normalized site attenuation (NSA) as a parameter to show the suitability of the field (open site) measuring unnecessary electromagnetic waves emitted by electromagnetic equipments. NSA is defined as propagation loss between a transmitting antenna and a receiving one. It is desirable that such a field is constructed on the large conductor plate because of the reproducibility of the measurement. Until now, NSA has been calculated approximately only using the far field by the geometric-optical method. However, considering the effects of measurement distance and frequency, NSA must be calculated using the total field with near field. In this paper, we examine first, how near field influence to NSA. Next, when the ground plate is the finite size, NSA is calculated considering the effects of the plate edges and nearby earth, and it is compared with the results with the near field.

This paper is concerned with an application of ray tracing method (RTM) to electro-magnetic wave propagation in urban areas suchi as underground or bottom of high-rise building in Tenjin district, one of the central parts of Fukuoka. In this paper we include the effect of diffraction by considering only the pricipalpart of diffraction, neglecting higher order of multiple diffractions. Numerical examples are shown for rays, including diffraction rays, and field distributions.

Recently, mobile communication technology has shown a remarkable progress. The estimation of the radio wave propagation routes in the urban areas is very important for making effectively use of radio waves. In this study, we analyze that, when the radio wave from source is diffracted by roof edges and side wall edges of a building, how these edges affect the radio wave propagation around the building. The analysis was carried out using GTD. As a result of numerical calculation, the radio waves which turn from side wall edges are large enough compared with the waves which pass via the roof.

Presented herein is a study of electromagnetic wave propagation inside tunnels, which have S-type bends and cranks. Propagation measurements are undertaken by microwaves using miniature models of a tunnel with S-bends and a tunnel with cranks. Moreover, the experimental results are compared with those obtained by the ray trace method.

In this paper, the square loop antenna loaded by a impedance elements is reported for the characteristics of resonance frequency, input resistance and radiation pattern. As a result, resonance frequency of square loop antenna can be reduced up to 21% by loading the reactance components. And we have also shown that the square loop antenna with reactance loading has the omnidirectional radiation pattern with high F/B ratio. In addition, practical design parameters to optimize the antenna size and impedance matching are discussed.

Previously, we developed the modified transmission line antenna (MTLA) with the parallel branch wire loading for mobile communication antennas. It had the improved good impedance characteristics and reduced antenna size. In this paper, for the purpose of more reduction of the MTLA, change of the location of loading parallel branch wire is investigated. We also introduce resonant frequency, input impedance, radiation pattern and gain characteristics for the MTLA with parallel line loading in different loading locations.

When one turn length of the helical antenna is smaller than one wave length, the helical antenna works in the normal mode and generates the circular polarized wave. But it is considered that normal mode helical antenna is not suitable for practical use, because its inputresistance is found to be very low. In this report, we investigate a normal mode helical antenna with impedance mathcing section using the method of moment. As a result, we have obtained a relatively high input resistance for the normal mode helical antenna with circular polarized wave.

In the numerical analysis, the electromagnetic wave simulator IE3D based on the Method of Moment is used. The calculation frequencies are from 450 MHz to 850 MHz. The input impedance characteristics are studied. The effect of dielectric slab on the input impedance characteristics is discussed.

Microstrip antennas are small, light and has low profile. However they has narrow-band and low gain with single element. Therefore, microstrip antenna is arrayed to achieve high gain. In addition, parasitic elements are added to the microstrip antenna to get high gain with single element. In this report, we analyze microstrip array antenna using FDTD method and consider the influence that parasitic element gives to the near field of microstrip array antenna and examine layout of parasitic elements.

A slot-coupled microstrip antenna with polarization switching function was proposed and studied. The proposal antenna is fed by a microstrip line through two slots with the interval of λ g/4 in the ground plane. By switching between opened and shorted termination at the tip of the microstrip line, the switching function between horizontal and vertical polarization was confirmed experimentally.

The mutual influence between the transmitting and receiving antennas of impulse radar is numerically analyzed by using the electromagnetic simulator "Fidelity" based on the FDTD method in the frequencies from 0.5 GHz to 4.5 GHz. The cavity-backed resistance-loaded planner monopole antennas are used for the transmitting and receiving antennas. The square conducting plate of 100 mm by 100 mm is located in front of antennas. The self-impedance of transmitting and receiving antennas and the time response of induced current at the feed point of receiving antenna are calculated.

In conventional MMICs, hybrid circuits have occupied comparatively large chip area and havcoperated at the fixed frequency. In this pape; we propose the QD-TFMS lines which are composed of high impedance TFMS lines and varactor elements due to the three dimensional MMIC (3DMMIC) topology. Using this newly developed active lines, we have envestigated afrequency variable branch-line hybrid circuit.
