For mobile communication in urban area, estimation of electromagnetic wave scattering by buildings and other obstacles is important for effective arrangement planning of base station antenna. In this paper, we analyze the electromagnetic fields scattered by a conducting plate on an edge of wedge such as a signbord on a building wall by GTD and show some numerical examples.

This paper is concerned with an application of ray tracing method (RTM) to electromagnetic wave propagation in a model house. The main frame of the house is made of steel plates and most of the other parts, such as walls, floors and ceilings, are made of woods. Since we cannot ignore the transmitted waves through walls, floors and ceilings in this type of house, we have to develop a ray searching algorithm taking account of transmitted rays through them. In this paper we propose a simple algorithm which neglects thickness in searching rays, but we consider thickness effect in calculating fields in terms of the reflection and transmission coefficients of a three-layered lossy dielectric slab. Numerical examples are given for the field distributions in rooms, and the numerical results are compared with experimental data.

The scattering characteristics of tripole array printed on a thin dielectric film is numerically investigated by using the electromagnetic simulator AWAS. The array is composed of tripole elements with arms of equal length. The center of element is put on the vertices of equilateral triangle lattice and the each arm is located on the sides of triangle. The frequency-selective characteristics of scattered fields are numerically examined for the plane wave incidence from the vertical direction to the array.

This paper presents a new approach to control electromagnetic field by the integration of microwave circuit and circuit elements. At first, the basic function of power divider is discussed, in which a microwave planar resonator is used as the microwave circuit. The high frequency power divider has practical flexibility in the design. Furthermore, the integration of short conductor and the planar resonator has realized about 4 times wide frequency band.

CPW-fed active slot dipole antenna for transmission is numerically analyzed. Between the feed point of passive slot dipole and the CPW, the silicon transistor 2SC3604 is integrated. The actual gain of transmitting antenna is expressed in terms of the scattering parameters of amplifier circuit and the input impedance and directivity of slot dipole. The gain characteristics of amplifier circuit is calculated.

A microstrip patch antenna using in-plane biased YIG polycristaline substrate has been investigated experimentally. The experimental results show the possibility of the circnlarly polarized radiation under weak applied DC magnetic field which is less than 100Oe. In the experiments, the axial ratio of the polarization can be controlled within 15dB by the variable DC magnetic field.

It is well known that the parallel branch wire loading technique to an antenna is an effective method to reduce the antenna size. In this paper, in order to reduce the size of a square loop antenna, we introduce a parallel branch wire loaded square loop antenna. And it is shown that size of the parallel branch wire loaded square loop antenna is reduce to almost 60%. We also investigated two elements Yagi-Uda array antenna using the parallel branch wire loaded square loop antennas as element antennas. It is proved that the parallel branch wire loaded square loop antenna without feed point works as the reflector element and the obtained gain of the Yagi-Uda array antenna is about 6.8dB.

Estimation of electromagnetic wave scattering by buildings and other obstacles is very important for communication in urban area. In this paper, the electric fields of the waves, which are transmitted from one side of a building and resched at the other side over its rooftop, are calculated based on GTD. The fields diffracted by a square obstacle and a conducting plate erected on a rooftop of a building are also discussed.

This paper is concerned with the numerical analysis of electromagnetic wave scattering from a rough surface by using ray tracing method. The method is effective when the average height and correlation length of the rough surface are relatively large compared with the wavelength. First we check the accuracy of the present method in comparison with a rigorous solution to the strip diffraction problem. Second we show some examples of traced rays including reflected and diffracted ones. Finally we also show numerical examples for scattering and propagation characteristics peculiar to the rough surface problem.

The complex permittivity and permeability of the materials with bincho charcoal powder and silicon are measured at the frequencies from 800MHz to 4GHz. The measured data are compared with the conventional materials for the electromagnetic wave absorber. The imaginary part of permittivity is large compared with the conventional materials for absorber. The reflection losses of single-layer type absorber with 40% bincho charcoal and 6-layer type absorber with six different mixing rates are calculated by using FDTD method. More than 17dB of the incident power is absorbed within the 6-layer absorber of 30mm in thickness.

Coplanar Waveguide (CPW) Bends deteriorate transmission characteristics due to the phase difference between the two slots. The phase compensation method proposed here requires only the pattern design with no air-bridges. The phase compensated CPW Bends were calculated with transmission frequency performance by using FDTD method. The characteristics of the proposed CPW Bends were investigated.

For the base station antenna of cellular mobile telephone systems, a beam tilting antenna, which achieves down beam tilting of main beam with smaller cell size, is desired. Such a beam tilting is realized easily by a loaded wire antenna. In this paper, design method of the antenna with more than 3 reactive loads for realizing desired tilt angle, high directive gain and low sidelobe level is described.
