Among a lot of proposals for super resolution image reconstruction, the total variation (TV) regularization method is one of the most successful approach with sharp edge preservation and no artifacts. However, the TV regularization method has a disadvantage of a long computational time. In this paper, we propose a fast super-resolution method and examine this system to apply to high-definition television signal by implementing on a CELL Processor.

In this paper, we propose a new adaptive histogram equalization (HE) method. We apply the DRSHE method to several blocks of an image in order to improve the regional image contrast with automatic parameter setting and its computational time. We compared the processed image of our method with those of the various conventional HE methods. We have obtained the best image that is close to the image by the Retinex method which is considered to be the best contrast enhancement technology. The computational time is an important advantage of the proposed method. It is much smaller than that of the Retinex method and the local HE method. The automatic parameter setting is another important advantage of the proposed method because many conventional HE methods require the parameter setting in accordance with each image.

Shingled Magnetic Recording disks overlap tracks to increase storage density, and thus require a special processing to achieve unrestricted random sector updates without data loss. The Shingled File System (SFS) is a host-side level solution to this problem and allows more efficient optimizations compared to a disk firmware based approach. Experimental results show that no overhead is incurred for large file workloads, making SFS a suitable solution for video processing devices such as personal video recorders and set-top-boxes.

a low cost noise reduction technology for compressed video such as the mosquito noise and the block noise has been developed. The authors characterized the length of filter taps for block and mosquito noise and proposed the memory sharing architecture for both types of noise detection. The architecture contributes the reduction of line memories required for buffering filtering data in a noise reduction pipeline.

We have newly developed a very low-delay full HD codec with relatively lower bitrate focusing especially on consumer or small business applications. As a result of analysis on several important factors for achieving a low-delay codec, we have focused on reduction of a buffering delay. In order to achieve a target delay with as little degradation of the picture quality as possible, we have developed a novel bitrate control algorithm of keeping the maximum carry over. We made experiments of the algorithm on our versatile H.264 codec platform, and obtained the result of 10 ms minimum delay at a bitrate of 8 to 10 Mbps.

It is very important to reduce passenger waiting time at tram station, when tram time tables are unknown by passengers. In order to accomplish that, we propose a tram location and route navigation system by using smartphones. The system is able to easily retrieve information about trams' locations by GPS, also providing users with the shortest walking route to the nearest tram station. For evaluating the usefulness of this system, we perform a demonstration experiment on an actual "Centrum" LRT system in the center of Toyama city.

Hybridcast is a platform in which various service providers and individuals are able to join by managing and controlling applications according to their identifications. We developed a method of controlling presentation for applications in Hybridcast as one method of controlling applications that follows presentation policy determined by broadcasters. This paper describes an outline of management of applications in Hybridcast, the transmission scheme of presentation policy, which is primary information for the method, and its prototype implementation.

To survey the present situation of fatigue caused by watching 3DTV, the degree of fatigue after watching 3D contents for one hour with commercially available 3DTV that requires use of shutter glasses was evaluated in various viewing conditions for 500 adult participants. As a result, there was no difference in the degree of fatigue between watching 2D and 3D contents with shutter glasses. On the other hand, there were differences in the sensation of fatigue between conditions with and without glasses and between viewing positions.

This paper introduces dual channel polarization holography as a vector wave recording technique. The principle is explained by considering the incident polarization distribution in some conditions and resultant birefringence distribution. The birefringence distribution is induced by superposing identical or different polarized signal and reference beams. In experiment, two images are independently given to p- and s- polarization components of a signal beam, and simultaneously recorded. Furthermore, it is confirmed that dual channel polarization holography can be combined to a holographic multiplex recording technique.
