This paper reports our development of new BS Digital Broadcast Receiver which can decode full Digital TV Services, HDTV and Data Broadcasting and Digital Broadcasting Radio. And developed hardware and software for the receiver, HDTV video decoder LSI and OS and BML Browser and so on. Also we developed IEEEE1394 interface for recording HDTV programs by digital using Digital VHS recorder.

We have developed the system for two types of LSI used in the BS digital receiver, which are the IEEE1394 LSI and the copy protection LSI for DTCP method. These LSIs have several original features, which are the ability to transmit/receive MPEG2-TS and DSS stream, full duplex transmission/receiving, and ellipse cipher calculation and contents cipher/decipher of DTCP method. We have also developed the firmware for the IEEE1394 bus system using these LSIs, and checked the validation of its system.

We developed a DVD-RW changer system for home use to expand applications of DVD-RW's world. We used the resources of DVR-1000, the world first DVD-RW recorder, and consumer CD changer. Although, we had to change pickup mechanism, for drive vertical setup and small-sized to built it into CD changer. This changer system has SCSI-2 interface. It can be controlled by SCSI-2 controller. We can record HD stream on BS digital test broadcast(by using Hard Disk Drive for buffering). This changer system can store huge amounts(about 1.4 Tbytes)of digital data as a server system and be useful to various applications at home.

We have developed a video camera recorder using small-size 80mm DVD-RAM with the following features: direct playback by selecting a thumbnail, no accidental overwrite, high-quality picture for a long time, playback on PCs with a 4.7GB DVD-RAM drive, DVD recorders, and future DVD players. We have achieved the compatibility with other products meeting "DVD Specifications for Rewritable / Re-recordable Discs Part 3: Video Recording Version 1.0" that is an International Standard Specification as a video recording format. We provide an easy-to-use operation for users by "Disc Navigation". I report the graphical user interface of Disc Navigation.

Sony devised the DCM-M1 MD Discam, a camcorder that uses a 4x-density MD for recording images. This features a graphic system with a user interface that makes the product especially easy to use. Many of its features result from adoption of a practical and compact MPEG-2 chip set.

We have developed a wide dynamic range imaging & signal processing technology using Hyper-D CCD. There was some problem in tone reproduction and signal to noise ratio with wide dynamic range over 16 times. In this work we control dynamic range into 4 times to 16 times by new technology with driving Hyper-D CCD. Then we achieve natural tone reproduced picture with newly developed signal processing and new camera control technology.
