A wireless High-Definition camera, which is called "a millimeter-wave mobile camera", is being developed for TV program production. In this development, High-Definition TV picture transmission with high quality, low latency and high link reliability is required, so examined is an application of MIMO-OFDM transmission scheme and Millimeter-wave for the camera. In this paper, for the purpose of making the camera used for TV program production in Line-of-Sight environment where enough reflect waves are not expected, the outdoor transmission performance of the wireless camera was measured and by using orthogonal polarized wave it was confirmed that MIMO channel correlation was reduced and the BER performance got better than before.

The purpose of this paper is to propose an improved FM radio music extraction system we have developed. Usually, the following three processes are implemented to extract music. In the first process, power change is utilized to extract verge parts between music and talk. The second process is fixing the verge parts according to the frequency feature. The final process extracts the music part which has longer interval of fixed verge parts than threshold. However, the above algorithm might divide a single music into multi parts, which decreases the usability. Therefore, we propose an improved algorithm, which infuses the difference between left and right sound data channels as a new feature and decides the end time referring to the continuous talk time. The usability evaluation experimental results show that our proposed algorithm has better performance than the usual one.

Service that offers digital Television Broadcasting to the cellular phone and the handheld mobile terminal is spreading in many areas of the world. The terrestrial broadcasting, satellite broadcasting, and the cellular phone network, etc. are used for the broadcasting channel. In these services, highly efficient MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video coding is employed. In this report, the mobile television standard and the specification are briefly introduced, and MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, video coding suitable for the mobile application, is described.

In recent years, location information of people have been attracting a lot of attention as a element for construct of ubiquitous environment. Especially, high precision of that location information is very important in case of emergency. In order to realize the precision, technical challenges will be evaluation of the precision of GPS information and how to improve it. So far, these issues have rarely been studied, however. In this paper, we use GPS on mobile phone as device of obtaining location information. We consider a method improve the precision with camera mobile phone, and show experiment results by the method.

This work discusses a new approach to estimate the throughput value which a mobile terminal would transmit data with before the terminal is connected to the WLAN. If the estimated throughput value is not enough high, the terminal will not try to connect itself to the network. This autonomous admission control enhances the usability of the whole network. Hence, it eventually gives each user a feeling of high satisfaction to the WLAN service. This paper will show how to put the proposed method into practice and the effectiveness based on the results obtained by the field experiments.

A process called Triage is introduced in serious accidents and disasters nowadays. In Triage, doctors prioritize a large number of patients by quick checks of their vital signs such as heart rate and respiration rate. The goal of Triage is to save as many patients as possible. In this paper, we describe problems in existing Triage and propose an electronic Triage system. Our Triage system enables automatic monitoring of vital signs, which is important to avoid "preventable death". For this purpose, wireless sensors are attached to patients to measure their vital signs, and the measured vital signs are gathered up to a server via wireless sensor networks. In addition, our system provides several useful functions such as position estimation in order to assist rescue teams.

Face recognition has become a very active and attractive research area in recent years due to its wide applications such as using as a password in computer, mobile telephone. In application, a realtime system is a big requirement for several systems, especially in embedded system that microprocessors are not very strong. For example, recognize a person through image from camera in mobile telephone that more and more popular nowadays. Several methods have been developed in recent years, and among various face recognition algorithms, one of the most successful techniques in realtime applications has been the appearance-based method. When using the appearance-based method, an image of size (m×n)-pixels by a vector in an (m×n) dimensional space is presented. In practice, however, these (m×n) dimensional spaces are too large to allow rapid and robust face recognition. A common attempt to solve this problem is through the use of dimensionality reduction techniques. For example, some of the most popular techniques can be used for this purpose including PCA, LDA, etc… However, there are a lot of drawbacks in these methods. We propose a novel algorithm, A Two-Dimensional Discriminant Supervised Neighborhood Embedding, which ensures two purposes: Rapidly process for using in some embedded systems (e.g. in mobile telephone microcontroller, video telephone) and robustly recognize for high recognition rate.

In mobile network (NEMO), network environment changes frequently due to the movements of nodes. For network management in such an environment it is imperative to collect time-oriented information data precisely. But monitoring traffic needed for collecting the information data increases excessively and can interfere with other traffic. To alleviate this problem, we proposed a novel method to maintain the monitoring traffic to a constant level by using mobile routers. With this method we can reduce the interference with other traffic. In this paper, we apply this method in actual network environment by improving the proposed method in accordance with the Standard Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

In ad-hoc networks, some nodes communicate simultaneously. Therefore, these communications interfere with each other's communications. The interference is one of the degradation factors in wireless communications. It is important to reduce the interference power to the neighbor nodes. In this paper, we propose an interference reduction routing protocol for ad-hoc networks. In the proposed protocol, each node estimates required transmission power for data packet transmission according to SINR (Signal-to-Interference and Noise power Ratio) and RSS (Received Signal Strength) of routing control messages. Therefore, the node can transmit a data packet with minimum required transmission power. Consequently, the interference against neighbor nodes can be reduced. From simulation results, we can find that the proposed protocol can reduce the number of control messages and can improve the throughput performance.

An Environmental observation system is a candidate application of sensor networks. In order to achieve the environmental observation, it is important to collect reliable data periodically. In this paper, we produce a field network for the environmental observation with SunSpot, which is a small sensor device produced by Sun Microsystems. The experimental sensor device implements some sensors, and reports an observed data information to a sink node periodically. From the experimental trial, we show that the produced device can construct the field network with high reliability for periodical observation.
