The local decoded picture is basically used as the reference for inter-picture prediction to avoid the mismatch between encoding and decoding. However, the coding efficiency is not necessarily the optimal in this processing. In this report, we try to use the original picture as the reference. In this case, the mismatch causes degradation of the picture quality. However, the bit amount will be reduced. To take optimal coding, we propose the adaptive method based on the bit amount and the decoded picture error. The original picture is used only in the block which has less bit amount and small error increasing. We apply this coding to MPEG-4 Main Profile. As the results of experiments, about 0.2dB gain in PSNR is given in a sequence. It is recognized that the adaptive method works successfully and coding performance can be improved.

In C-MOS imaging sensor which is widely used recently, an image scanning is carried out because of different manner of transfer for the pixel information. This causes a geometric distortion in the captured image depended on the motion. To reduce this problem, the capturing at the same time should be done, and the mechanical shutter is used. On the other hand, sequential capturing for the still image became popular because of high processing speed capability. Therefore, we discuss the compensation method for the geometric distortion using the motion vector which is estimated between the two images. At first, we analyze the geometric distortion caused by the motion. Next, the relation between the motion which cause distortion and the motion vector is discussed. To evaluate the proposal, the geometric compensation method using re-sampling is applied for the actual images.

Broadband planar antennas are useful for mobile communications. The UWB systems are worried about interferes in the 5GHz band, assigned for IEEE802.11a. In this paper, UWB antenna with a parasitic element is proposed in order to make a stop band in the 5GHz band and is analyzed by using the FDTD method. The characteristics are shown in figures. This result will apply to development of broadband planar antenna with stop band for mobile communications.

An application of SFN-GF (Single Frequency Network-Gap Filler) is expected for improving the poor reception of the digital terrestrial television broadcasting. To design SFN-GF efficiently by computer simulation, it is important to identify the arrival situations of multipath and feed them back to simulation model. In this paper, in order to improve estimation accuracy of multipath based on measured data, the delay profile is analyzed in detail. Moreover, the reception antenna appropriate for the proposed scheme is examined. As a result, accuracy of Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation is improved.

In recent years, next generation systems have been actively studied to realize high speed and capacity data communication within mobile environments. MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) systems with multiple antennas on the transmit and receive sides can perform parallel transmission at the same time and frequency by taking advantage of multi-path environment. The communication capacity depends on the mutual coupling and the correlation coefficient between antenna elements and varies with the propagation environment around the mobile terminal. In addition, the small terminal is affected by human hands. In this report, the interaction between MIMO antenna and human hands under the mobile urban environment is investigated. The correlation coefficient and radiation efficiency close to the simplified model of the human hand are calculated and measured changing the antenna configuration.

OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is used for DTTB (Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting). It is not affected by delayed waves easily, so SFN (Single Frequency Network) is possible. However, the signal quality cannot be measured accurately with C/N (Carrier to Noise Ratio) or MER (Modulation Error Ratio) in SFN area because of delayed waves. In this paper, we propose a new evaluation method with "Margin" and "Environmental Degradation Index". We verified the accuracy of this proposed method with field experiment.

Gap-filler (GF) is used to improve the receiving condition in the shaded place as a device which re-transmits a broadcasted wave. But it is difficult to re-transmit to the shaded place only, so it transmits a vertical polarized wave to avoid the interference with the horizontally polarized wave from the master station. However, the Yagi antenna also receive undesired polarized waves, and the attenuation of the undesired polarized wave becomes low depends on the direction of the wave. Therefore, it is expected that the D/U becomes low and the receiving condition becomes bad. In this paper, we describe the results of the field experiments and mention the difference of the influence to the receiving condition depends on the D/U.
