    In urban areas, electromagnetic waves are scattered complexly by walls and edges of buildings. Therefore, it is important to estimate the propagation path from the viewpoint of an effective utilization of the radio wave resources. In this paper, the electromagnetic fields diffracted by two edges on a building rooftop are analyzed by GTD, and the frequency characteristics are considered.

    This paper is concerned with an analysis of back scattering of electromagnetic waves from a target moving along inhomogeneous random rough surfaces such as desert, sea surface and so on. First we introduce the discrete ray tracing method (DRTM), and second we apply this method to the back scattering problem in order to investigate the effect of the back scattering from inhomogeneous random rough surfaces on the radar cross section. Finally we show some numerical examples for various height deviation of the Gaussian type of rough surfaces. It is demonstrated numerically that the back scattering is dominated by the diffractions related to the reflections from the random rough surfaces.

    Distribution of electric field strength inside a building where rooms and residents are assumed is analyzed by measurements and FVTD simulations. This study has been conducted since it became a well-known fact that existence of concrete walls and people affects performance of indoor communication devices such as mobile phones and RFID. In this paper, how residents effect distribution of electric field strength inside the building having many rooms is analyzed. Comparing the results obtained by using the analytical model where residents are assumed and no resident is assumed, the electric field strength inside the model in which there are persons are higher close to the source point and lower at far from the source point than that inside the model in which there is no person.

    In this paper, a novel structure of low noise positive feedback Push-Push oscillator is described. This circuit consists of two Push-Push oscillators and two RF multipliers. In the oscillator, microstrip lines are arranged on a dielectric substrate, and a slot line is arranged on the reverse side. The multiplier can fix the phase difference between the oscillation signals of the Push-Push oscillators. Therefore, the phase noise of the oscillators can be improved.

    In this paper, a wide band positive feedback Push-Push VCO using Double-Sided MIC technology was proposed. HEMTs are used for the active devices in the oscillator. The fundamental signal and the odd harmonics are suppressed in prinaple. The second harmonic is the desired output. Frequency tuning has been achieved by the phase shifter in the slot line. As a result of the experiment, tuning frequency nange of 3GHz was successfully confirmed in K-band.

    Authors have proposed a stacked rectangular microstrip antenna with a shorting plate for Dual-band operation in ITS. In this paper, a stacked rectangular microstrip antenna with a shorting plate combined with a rectangular ring microstrip antenna has been proposed for triple-band operation. Although the proposed antenna consists of two antennas, the antennas are excited by one L-probe feed. By simulations, the relationships of antenna characteristics (the return losses and the polarized waves) at GPS, VICS and ETC bands are clarified.

    An electrically small circularly polarized normal mode helical antenna is presented. This antenna has a slender shap but it can generate circular polarization using a back conductor. The size of antenna is very small with a ka value of 0.35 at 1.12GHz. The measured and simulated characteristics of the antenna are in good agreement and attained a<3dB axial ratio bandwidth of 9.8% in measurement.

    In this paper, a Push-Push oscillator array using variable phase shift coupring circuit is presented. The oscillator array consists of a reflection-type push-push oscillator including variable phase shift coupling circuit. The variable phase shift coupring circuit consists of a rat-race cirquit and schottky barrier diodes. The phase shift between the output signals of the oscillators is achieved by the phase difference of the reflection coefficients of the coupring circuit. The basic performance of the oscillators array using two push-push ocillators is confirmed.

    In this paper, a novel rectenna array is proposed for an application in microwave power transmission. In order to realize the high voltage and wideband rectenna with simple structure, the antenna elements are integrated with a rectifying circuit. The proposed array rectenna consists of slot ring antenna elements and the cascade connection. The basic characteristics of the rectenna are investigated experimentally to conform the basic bahabior with simple structure.

    The ultra low profile inverted L antenna on a rectangular conducting plane is miniaturized for a receiving antenna of the keyless entry system of the car. The horizontal element of the inverted L antenna is bent to the meander shape. The return loss, the radiation characteristics and current distributions of the antenna are discussed for the different antenna parameters. In the case of the antenna height of 32mm, the size of conducting plane is 70mm by 350mm, the directivity of 2.55dBi is obtained in the frequencies from 321MHz to 315.25MHz.

    When the additional conducting plane is located perpendicular to an ultra low profile inverted L antenna on the rectangular conducting plane, the antenna characteristics affected by the conducting plane is numerically analyzed. The design frequency is 2.45GHz. When the two conducting planes are located in L shape, the directive gain of 2.98dBi is obtained in the direction of additional conducting plane. In the numerical analysis, the electromagnetic simulator WIPL-D based on method of moment is used.

    The circular polarized, ultra low profile antenna composed of an unbalanced fed inverted L antenna and a parasitic inverted L element is numerically analyzed. The current distribution on two elements and the near field distribution on antenna are investigated and the relation between those and the radiation characteristics are discussed. The design frequency is 2.45GHz. The electromagnetic simulator WIPL-D which is based on moment law is used to numerical analysis.

    Distribution of electric field strength around and under a rough surface street is analyzed by measurements and FVTD simulations. This study has been conducted to investigate effects of roughness of streets on electromagnetic waves propagating an underground cavity. For this aim the results obtained by using the following three different conditions have been examined: (1) a surface of street is flat and rough, (2) there is a cavity or no cavity underground, and (3) there is a connection hole or no hole between an aboveground and an underground cavity. These comparisons give the results that roughness of the street surface makes more reflection to the upper part of the street, electromagnetic waves transmit inside an underground cavity easily regardless of whether being flat or rough, and the electric field strength around the points being far from the source point are little changed due to existence of a connection hole.

    Electromagnetic interference occurred by gathering concrete buildings is analyzed. Distribution of electric field strength around an actual apartment house complex is analyzed by experimental measurements and FVTD simulations. Comparing the results obtained by using two formations, there are three buildings in a line and there are six buildings in two lines, path losses extremely increase by forming buildings in two rows. Therefore, electromagnetic waves can easily transmit backwards of three buildings if they are on one line.

    Distribution of electric field strength depending on density of persons inside a square building is analyzed by comparing the results obtained by measurements and those obtained by FVTD simulations. Those analyses have been done as paying attention to the fact that performance of wireless communication devices such as mobile phones is affected by existence of persons and concrete walls. Comparing the results obtained by using three models that persons are located uniformly, persons are located randomly and persons gather at one side in a building, how distribution of electric field strength are changed has been examined. The results of the comparison, the distribution of electric field strength become symmetry centering on the transmitting point when the persons locate uniformly, on the other hand, the distribution of electric field strength vary greatly comparing with those in the uniform structure when the persons locate randomly. In addition, in the case of gathering persons at one side in a building, propagation losses on the propagation path inside and backwards of persons are increased. For this reason, path loss is increased with being high density of person.

    In order to investigate the understanding method of the phenomenon of electromagnetic wave by using the electromagnetic wave simulator, the electromagnetic wave distribution along the parallel line fed dipole antenna is calculated. In the numerical analysis, the electromagnetic simulator WIPL-D Time Domain Solver based on the Moment method is used. When the Gaussian monocycle pulse is excited, the time domain response of electromagnetic field distribution is shown.

    In this paper, a FM-CW RF sensor using orthogonal linear polarized microstrip array is proposed. The proposed sensor is composed of the antenna array and a slot ring RF mixer and RF amplifiers. The antenna elements can be shared for transmitting and receiving. In the slot ring mixer, the transmitting wave and the receiving wave are multiplied and a beat frequency output is obtained. As the proposed the sensor antenna is contracted using Both-side microwave technology and the RF mixer is arranged in the same plate, the structure is very simple and compact. The characteristics of the sensor antenna are investigated theoretically and experimentally.

    In this paper, a microstrip antenna array with a linear polarization discrimination function is proposed. This proposed antenna can receive both the vertical and the horizontal linear polarization function. A feed cirucuit constitute both-sided circuit. The antenna composition is much compacter to have integrated the diode for the detecting phase with the antenna. The Fundamental characteristics of the antenna array are investigated experimentally.

    A novel cavity backed circularly polarized antenna with a square radiating aperture for broadband characteristics is presented in this paper. The horizontal and vertical components of the antenna are separated and fabricated on the front and back side of the substrate. The antenna is excited by a microstrip line which is connected to vertical component of the L-shaped probe and electromagnetically couples the signal to the horizontal component of the L-shaped probe. Broadband circular polarization (CP) with unidirectional patterns can be obtained by having a square cavity of height λ_g/4 behind the antenna. A measured bandwidth of 44.8% (2.65-4.18GHz) in S11 with 44.97% (2.69-4.25GHz) in axial ratio (AR) characteristics along with an overlapped bandwidth of 43.38% is achieved.

    This paper is concerned with an approximation for electric field distributions along random rough surfaces. Rough surfaces are generated by the convolution method, and spectrum density function of rough surface is assumed to be Gaussian. Electric field distributions are numerically calculated by the DRTM, and two parameters, α and β are determined by using the proposed estimation solution. Approximate expressions for α is proposed in terms of the random rough surface parameters, correlation length (cl) and deviation of height (dv).

    We have studied the effectiveness of Discrete Ray Tracing Method (DRTM) which is an algorithm for propagation analysis of electromagnetic wave. In this paper, we numerically examine the effectiveness by using terrain data obtained from Geographic Information System (GIS). In these numerical studies, we check where blind zones exist. Based on the simulation results, we demonstrate that the DRTM is useful to decide allocation of relay stations to overcome the blind zones.

    We developed an evolutional polarity (lag or lead) detectable delay wave measuring apparatus for measuring long delay wave profiles accurately by using newly developed transfer function method and power spectrum method under SFN (Single Frequency Network) of terrestrial digital television network. This apparatus is now in practical operation.

    Digital terrestrial TV service will be developing until July 24^<th> of 2011. The system ensure the high quality pictures, multi channels and interactive communications are possible to viewing audience. Remaining only analog services are FM and Medium-wave radio transmission. This paper discusses the large power medium-wave transmitters which transition from the vacuum tube type to the digital processing type, and pointing out of the digital transmitter design.

    Super Hi-Vision (SHV) is an extremely high-resolution television system. Its video format uses 7680x4320 pixels and it employs a 22.2 multi-channel audio system. Experimental equipment which accommodates a 24-Gbps uncompressed SHV signal in an OTU3 signal was developed. Results of an indoor long-haul transmission trial showed that the equipment with optical amplifiers and a dispersion compensation fiber is capable of transmitting an SHV signal up to 50km or less. The equipment was used for a 16.5km field transmission for an SHV live broadcast demonstration in IBC2010 exhibition.

    A wireless High-Definition camera, which is called "a millimeter-wave mobile camera", is being developed for TV program production. In this development, High-Definition TV picture transmission with high quality, low latency and high link reliability is required, so examined is an application of MIMO-OFDM transmission scheme and Millimeter-wave for the camera. In this paper, for the purpose of making the camera used for TV program production in Line-of-Sight environment, vertical and horizontal polarized omni-directional antennas were developed and the outdoor transmission performance of the wireless camera using orthogonal polarized wave was measured. In conclusion, it was confirmed that MIMO channel correlation was reduced and the BER performance got better than before.
