Trichomonas vaginalis infestation in the male genito-urinary tract has been reported by many foreign authors, but in our country only 6 cases of which were hitherto reported. Being interested in finding out the incidence of trichomonas vaginalis infestation in Japanese male genito-urinary tract, I examined 63 cases all of which having urethral disorders. The chief complaints in these cases were such as follows.
1) Recidual feeling……17
5) Frequency……6
2) Urethral mucoid discharge……16
6) Itchness……7
3) Pain by urination……15
7) Purulent discharge……6
4) Pain in urethra……10
These patients were all suffering from or had complication of Urethritis simplex with the exception of Gonorrhea (6 cases) and cystitis (5 cases).
Fresh specimens of urethral and prostatic secretions obtained from the above mentioned patients were examined microscopically and also the culture method were used at the same time. The prescription of the media used in this culture method was as follows:
Meat extract 1.0 NaCl 0.2
Paptone 1.0 Agar 0.03
Cystein hydrochloride 0.2 Water 100.0
Ph is adjusted to 5.6-5.8 and thereafter 0.1% Methylenblue is added in 0.2 percentage. At the time of usage 4cc. of this media was added with 1cc of horse blood serum and penicillin (2.000u.) and streptomycin (2.000u.).
2 cases of trichomonas vaginalis infestation in the prostats were found, but in both these two cases the subjective symptoms were not severe and no gonococci were cultivated. Trichomonas were always demonstrated in their prostatic secretions during 12 and 7 days, respectively. Objectively the prostate was slightly enlarged and moderately infiltrated. In both cases demonstration of Trichomonas became completely negative after the injection of 300×AgNO
3 solution in the posterior urethra.
Experimental inoculation of bacteria-free Trichonomas performed in the urethra of 3 guinea pigs was unsuccessful and their urethra and bladder studied histopathologically were normal. 5 men having he next-mentioned urethral conditions—normal, chronic urethritis, cystitis, paraurethritis and acute urethritis—were also inoculated with bacteria-free Trichomonas, but no positive results were obtained.
