804 patients with the prostatic hypertrophy were investigated. They were visited to the Department of Dermato-Urology, Okayama University Hospital for 35 years from 1920 to 1954 and investigated about the following 15 articles.
    (1) Frequency of the patients and the classification of the stages of the diseases; total average rate to the total urological patients was 3.006% and the highest was the second stage of the prostatic hypertrophy through 35 years.
    (2) Age at admission: 43% were between 60 and 70 years of age.
    (3) Duration from onset to admission: about 66% of patients were visited within one year from onset.
    (4) Past history: gonorrhea was found to be the most highest percentage among the others.
    (5) Occupation: the order was farmer, no occupation, business man followed.
    (6) Season at admission: no special relation was found at all seasons of the year.
    (7) Constitution and nutrition: most of them were found in well nourished and fine built.
    (8) Subjective complaint: frequency of urination was first and then followed obstruction, weak urinary stream.
    (9) Rectal examination of the prostate: mostly slight enlarged of prostate and then hen-egg sized, surfaces of the tumors were smooth, and indurations were considerably elastic and many of them had no pain due to pressure by finger.
    (10) Length of urethra, penis and perimeter of penis: average measurements were as followed. Averaged urethral length 20.3-20.1cm; length of penis 9.4-11.4cm; perimeter of penis 7.7-8.5cm(11) Bladder capacity: mostly 301-400 cc.
    (12) Trabecula of the mucous membrane of the bladder: most of them were found in the second stage.
    (13) Blood pressure: mean blood pressure was 150 mmHg and the highest was 250 mmHg.
    (14) Renal function: (1) dilution and concentration test. (2) phenolsulfonphthalein test.
    (3) indigo-carmine excretory test. The results were divided into two parts. One was good and the other was bad. Much of them were found in good in the second stage and bad in the third stage.

Histological examination of the testicles was carried out in 13 cases of prostatic carcinoma, 24 cases of prostatic hypertrophy, 1 case of prostatic sarcoma and 21 cases of non-prostatic diseases with special reference to changes in basilar membrane of tubuli seminiferi, intratubular cells and interstitial tissue and lipid contents. All patients were over 50 years old except a case aged 48 suffering from prostatic hypertrophy.
In cases of prostatic carcinoma, proliferation of the cells of Leydig and increased lipid contents were characteristic features, while spermatogenesis was less impaired than cases of non-prostatic diseases. These findings were very interesting as the fact was concerned that anti-androgenic therapy and castration were effective treatments for prostatic carcinoma.
In cases of prostatic hypertrophy, histological changes were less severe than that of non-prostatic diseases, but an exceptional increasement of lipid contents in the cells of Leydig were observed.
The finding that was observed in a case of prostatic sarcoma was almoat identical with that of prostatic carcinoma.
