    The writer divided the Koriyama Basin and Tamura Mountain in the Northeastern District into three parts according to their topography, where the rate of land utilization is comparatively low. These parts are: (1) The Koriyama. Basin: up land is wide, (2) Western Tamura: hilly, (3) Eastern Tamara: mountainous. Note: Abbr. (1). Kb, (2) Tw, (3) Te. The writer researched. the characters of the distribution of the arable land in these parts with relation to topografphy, using eight figures, namely, (1) Classifi-cation of Topography, (2) Summit level, (3) River level, (4) Relief Energy, (5) Density of an arable land, (6) Density of paddy land, (7) Density of a field (8) Field ratio to an arable land.
    Results obtained are as fellows:
    (I) There are many paddy lands on the upland in Kb and the density of a paddy land is very large. The density of a dry-field in the hilly Tw is over 30%. These facts show that the rate of land utilization in this region is comparatively high in the Northeastern District. (II) Arable lands are distributed. according to their topographic conditions. Each of these three parts has its own character in the pattern of the. distribution of an arable land. (III) The altitude of the fields is near the summit level both in Kb and Tw. but, in Te, it is near the river level, for the fields are concent rate in the bottom of the valley on account of the high altitude of that part. (IV) The relation between relief energy and arable land: The densities of the arable land in Kb, Tw and Te are classified into large, medium, and sly a proportion to the small, medium and large relief energy of Kb, Tw trea of paddy lands is larger than that of fields in Kb, they are equal in Te and. the latter is larger than the former in Tw.

    In the eastern foot of the Abukuma Plateau, the uplands known as “Foreland.” are distributed along the Pacific Ocean. In this rigion, the existence of the marine terraces was described by some geomorphologists, but several geologists reported that the Pleistocene deposits of this region were mostly fluvial origin. The writer researched the geomorpology of this area with special reference to the distribution and facies of deposits for the purpose of solving the discrepancy above mentioned and of explaining the forming process of geomorphic surfaces, especially of the marine terrace plain.

    The conclusions of this paper are as follows
    (1) In this region, the writer distinguished three major geomorphic surfaces having the altitudes of 120-130m (Upper), 50-70m (Middle) and 30-40m (Loner) (Fig. 1). They are correlated with Tama terrace, Musa-shino terrace and Interiuiediate terrace between Musashino and Post Kanto Loam terraces. (2) From the detailed survey of the sediments composing geomorphic surfaces (Figs. 1, 3 and 4 and Tab. 1), she inferred the environments of deposition and the forming processes of the surfaces, and classified them as showvn in Fig. 2. (3) It is presumed that the land has been intermittently elevating on the whole, rarely containing the partial subsidence in the north, and the movements of the northern part are more complicated than those of the south. In all surfaees, the boundaries of the geomorphic surfaces having different processes are situated along the courses of the River Miy ata and Juo, where the existence of the tectonic line. has been concluded from the Tertiary tectonic by certain geologists. Tendency of the crustal movements in Pleistocene above stated is similar to that of Tertiary.

    In the previous paper the writer estimated the number of agencies corresponding to their population in each of local towns in Eastern Shikoku. This time he calculated by the same method the correlation coefficient and correlation ratio between population and number of agencies in each town of Nara Prefecture and acquired. the regression lines Y (population) on X (number of agencies) and by the regression lines and standard error, estimated the number of agencies in table 2.

    Lake Inawashiro lies in the middle part of Fukushima Prefecture, and is ranked fourth in area. On its northern coast, the author has discovered a group of lake terraces of three different stages which show the deelination of the lake level. The higher terrace is 525m, the midddle one 520m and the lower one 515m, in height and the recent lake level is 514m above sea level.
    On its southern coast there are few lake terraces, but on the contrary river terraces are censiderably developed. The correlations of the river terraces to the lake terraces of both kinds are distributed in fig. 3 and divided into three classes. The higher terraee is 550m, the middle one 535m and the lower one 515m in height. These levels are higher than those of the northern coast.
    If the terrace levels on the northern coast can be correlated to those on the south, the difference of these levels will represent the block movement of Inawashiro lake basin toward the north.

    The Pleistocene and recent volcanoes of Japan are almost exclusively situated on high mountainous regions. They must have erupted on these ridges with or after the upheaving of these bedrocks. Most of the cone-sha-ped mountainbodies of the strato-volcanoes, therefore, are not entirely com-posed of the accumulations of volcanic rocks erupted from the volcanoes, but of the elevated bedrocks and the veneers of volcanic materials deposited on them. It seems to be of importance for us to reconsider the idea of Buch's “Erhebungstheorie” on this problem.
    The recent progress in volcano-stratigraphy in Japan elucidates that the topography of some mountains which have apparently been called as “Tho-loide” is not an original shape of volcanoes, but the result of differential erosion.
