An isolated society, in general, is strongly cc-operative in the sociallife of people. However, Toshinm, an isolated small island, has little tendency off co-operation. The writLer believes.hat such tendency comes f roin the following facts; Firstly, the main source of income in the island is camelia-imt and caielia-oil. Farm production and fishery are not sufficient for food supply. The landocracy depends on. caniniia woods, but the tenantry on faun production. Hence these are wide.cliff rrences of economic life between the two.
Secondly, There grows up the relation of the employer and the employee in the labor for gathering camelia-nut.
Thirdly, the latter is engaged. in various, kinds of works, and look for income froo different quarters, so that there can be no co-oper-ation among them.
