ジャーナル フリーWhen authors observed the subjective colors on several rotating disks, Benham Top appeared the most remarkable and various subjective colors. Then the subjective colors on some modified patterns put on the Benham Top were described in terms of color appearance relating to the color patches under the illumination by a 150 watts incandescent flood lamp. Consequently the following conclusions were obtained. On the width of arcs of the Benham pattern, the narrower arc showed the more saturated color, but they are the more troublesome to determine the color. Changing the length of arc, the saturation slighty changes without hue changing. And according as the angular position of arc varies, the hue changes from red to blue. ジャーナル フリーAs the method to fit the image of a house and the garden which had brought from China, to the narrow site in Japan, the noblemen of the Heian era omitted the needless part of a house and the garden. Then they made deformation of the magnificent image. In the result, the symmetrical pattern of a house and the garden changed for unsymmetrical pattern. "Sakutei-ki' shows the way to express it. In the Muromachi era, as the method to fit the Heian pattern to the narrower site, in the north garden they made a symbolized fall or stream, the south garden they abstracted and expressed the image of a pond or islet on white sand. In the era of samurai, they made jodan no ma and decorated with colorful pictures which painted on a field of gold leaf. ジャーナル フリーThe first purpose of this study was a comparison between evaluations of form compositions and color compositions. The evaluation scales which were used, were (1) good-bad, (2) dislike-like, (3) complex-simple, (4) commonplace-unique, and (5) not popular-popular. As results, bad form compositions were able to change to get a good value by color conditioning. The second purpose was to compare the evaluations by professional designers and by non-professionals. Designers had a common view toward color compositions, based on special training and knowledges. This view seemed to have some differences from painters. There must be so called design color. On the other hand, non-professionals had some difficulties for estimations by inner personal normes. But generally, evaluations by both groups showed the same directions.
