The type of the Corriedale sheep (vis aries L.) in the northern part of Japan, Fukushima, Yamagata Iwate and Akita prefectures, is studied biometrically.
Ten physical characters in each of 1536 ewes and 81 rams, aged three or more, were measured by the authors paying special attention to prevent the errors in measuring. The biometric constant, the frequency curve, with its fitted normal curve, are obtained and the goodness of fit for each curve is tested. The existence of positive correlations be tween nine pairs of characters, withers height between other charscters, is shown and then the equation of regression is found. Thus studying analitically, the normal type of the Corriedale sheep in the biometric sense is determined as in the case of Chosen cattle by Kanadani.
Then the type of the Corriedale sheep in Japan is compared with that of Kanyo and Sanpakuyo in the northern part of China by means of type difference and reduced coefficient of racial likeness.
The results obtained here are as follows:
(1) Biometric constant
(2) Normal curve……exclusion
(3) Correlation coefficient
(4) Equation of regression
(5) Normal type
(6) Comparing type by T. D. and R. C. R. L.
