Two hundreds and twenty two cases of postapoplectic patients were re-examined from the view point of internal medicine, in order to elucidate their physical capacity for the physical training.
The main complications were hypertension (147 cases), heart diseases (55 cases), kidney diseases (11 cases) and sclerosis of aorta (10 cases).
Including physical findings which yet not constitute any special clinical entity, hypertrophy of left ventricle (in 63%), abnormal ST-T (in 62%), auricular fibrillation (in 11%), sclerosis of aorta in X -ray film (in 72%), decreased excretion rate of PSP (15 minutes examination) (in 39%) were disclosed. The increase of lactic acid in arterial blood of those
patients was suggested. Abnormaly positive urobilinogen reaction of urine was found in 22 out of 79 cases. The tendency of anemia was also disclosed. The abnormality in the brain circulation of those patients was pointed out, the decreased CDO
2 was attributed partly to
the anemic tendency and partly to the decreased activity of brain circulation maintainance.
These physical disorders including complicating diseases were regarded as factors which have occasionally decisive influence on the whole process of physical training program.
The initial careful evaluation and the adequate management were stressed.
