In order to study the shadow formed by v. thoraci longitudinalis dextra, the authors made investigations of routine films and planiograms, pathologically and anatomically.
1. v. thoraci longitudinalis dextra through the outside of trachea and right main bronchus; on the chest film, it took spindle shape, which run oblique from inner upper to the outer lower region at the upper part of the hilus.
II. On the routine film, it appeared in 20 to 30 per cent and on planiogram about 90 percent.
III. The majority cases of the present question were observed at the bifurcation of the trachea, however, little cases appeared at the somewhat upper part of it or the bifurcation of the right upper bronchial truncus.
IV. As for the dimention, it seemed to be proportional to the body size, and it seemed also to have some relations to the intrathoracic pressure or venous pressure.
V. Shadows were generally clear on the planiogram of about median of the breast thickness, i. e., 8. 9 and 10 cm points from the back, and it showed mutual relationship with the breast thickness.
VI. Differentiation with the hilar lymph glands was easy from the shape as the shadow of the lymph gland showed irregular shape, and the lower appearence rate of the shadow of the lymph glands at the place. Furthermore, the fact that the shadow appeared in the cases which reacted negative to tuberculin test assured that it was one of v. thoraci longitudinalis dextra.
