Vitamin D dependency, primary hypophosphatemic rickets and renal osteodystrophy were studied on their pathogenesis by employing oral isotopic test of calcium absorption (Avioli et al., 1965). Patients with vitamin D dependency and renal insufficiency apparently indicated the existence of specific intestinal transport defect of calcium, suggesting that there might be any impairment in the convertion of vitamin D to the biologically important metabolites or any inhibition of their binding activity to the nuclear membrane, while patient with primary hypophosphatemic rickets showed normal intestinal absorption of calcium. However, the detailed mechanism remained unknown and further studies are required.

In parallel with the light microscopic observations, the change of thiamine content in reference to the correlation between the free and ester types of thiamine was investigated during the seed development (from pollination to maturation) of wheat and maize. With respect to the correlation between the content of the free and ester types of thiamine, the following 4 different phases were distinguished in the process of seed development. The first phase is characterized by the presence of the ester type of thiamine only, and the second phase by the preponderance of the ester type. The third phase is marked by an increasing amount of free thiamine, and the fourth phase by an exceeding amount of free thiamine. At the end of the second phase, the relative amount of free thiamine and its ester are reversed. Differentiation of embryo comes nearly to an end by this period. Thiamine triphosphate can be detected until the second phase. It seems that the appearance and disappearance of thiamine triphosphate during seed development are in closer conjunction with embryonal differentiation.

The transport mechanism of PaA into human erythrocytes and lymphocytes from rabbit appendix was investigated. 1. The transport of pantothenic acid (PaA) into human erythrocytes was considered to be performed by simple diffusion mechanism. There was no necessity of energy or particular carrier protein for the transporting mechanism. 2. In the case of lymphocytes, the PaA transporting mechanism was seemed to be different from that of erythrocytes. When PaA concentration in the reaction medium was elevated, the incorporated amount of the vitamin into lymphocytes reached to some saturated level. This incorporation was inhibited by high concentration of dinitrophenol. However, the effect of addition of glucose was not so remarkable. Consequently, it is difficult to decide whether the transport reaction of PaA into lymphocytes is active or passive.

The gas chromatographic behavior of pyrithioxin (PNSS) and it's related compounds were investigated. From the results it was found that PNSS trimethylsilyl (TMS) and trifluoroacetyl derivatives were decomposed by polar column, and the peak of PNSS・TMS derivative also decreased in injection port at a temperature higher than about 300℃ and in column at a temperature higher than about 250℃. PNSS was quantitatively converted to the TMS derivative by reacting with bis-(trimethylsilyl)-acetamide at room temperature for 10 minutes. This determination procedure of PNSS was applied to pharmaceutical preparation. The stationary phase used was 1.5% methyl phenyl silicone coated on Chromosorb W (acid-washed and silane treated, 80/100 mesh) and determination was carried out under the conditions given in Fig. 3. The recovery was 100.4% (n=8) and the standard deviation was 1.28% for PNSS.

Folic acid contents of various foods were estimated by the microbioassay using Lactobacillus casei as the test organism. Folate contents without conjugase treatments were expressed as free folate and folate contents assayed after chicken pancrease conjugase treatment were expressed as total folate. The results of folate estimation of coocked foods showed that loss of free folate during coocking was greater than that of total folate.

In liver, two pathways for biosynthesis of phosphatidylcholine are presented ; One is the stepwise methylation pathway from phosphatidylethanolamine and the other via phosphorylcholine and cytidine diphosphate-choline (CDP-choline). To investigate the dynamics of these pathways, the incorporation of ^3H-methyl-choline chloride and 1,2-^<14>C-ethanolamine into male rat liver microsomal phosphatidylcholine were examined under different metabolic conditions ; diet devoid of cobalamin fed, CCl_4 injured and methylcobalamin treated livers and nervous systems. Phosphatidylcholine biosynthesized by the pathway via CDP-choline mainly contributes the intertransportation of phosphatidylcholine between microsome and mitochondria, and constructs the mitochondrial phospholipidsprotein complex. The rate of transmethylation of phosphatidylethanolamine was easily affected by several biological conditions. The phosphatidylcholine synthesized from phosphatidylethanolamine was increased in methylcobalamin treated group, but not so much provided with the transportations between mitochondria and microsome and have the different biological function from that of phosphatidylcholine via CDP-choline.
